It's like the face of Lagos. I know there's been multiple resistance against demolition and the slum has some NGO backing that has dragged the Lagos state government to court. I heard the slum occupies over 250,000 people. It's gonna be a difficult fight for the Lagos state government.

@@ikemmanuel7859 But the government has an advantage!! Up to 70% of Makoko is on water! Nobody can claim ownership of waters of any country! The creeks, lagoons, lakes, wetlands and rivers belong to the government! Most of the shacks are built on stilts all along the waterways, and that is where the government can at least start with! Also there are illegal sand mining that has steadily increased and stretched out towards the third mainland bridge! The sand dredging can threaten the piles and piers at the base of the columns that holds up the famous bridge!! There is a calamitous disaster waiting to happen in Lagos if the loggers and the underwater sand diggers are not stopped and relocated!! Me i don talk my own!! 👊🏾🇳🇬👊🏾🇳🇬!!

These same people go back home during the festive period. They have houses in Badagry, Cotonou, Ogun state border to Seme and other Nigerians amongst them have their state of origin. I'm happy they acknowledged that they were given notices.

"Peter Obi of Anambra State has explained the reason behind the recent exercise especially at Onitsha Bridgehead. Governor Obi, who addressed the displaced traders at the Bridgehead said that the structures were demolished to give way for the reconstruction of the area, which is strategic to the state". Delta state did the same this year. In South East Nigeria Governor Uzodimma, Emeka Ihedioha and the Northern governor Kabir Yusuf, Ganduje are on this table. it is a case of disagreement and supremacy between governors. In Lagos state, it is done for growth and development.

There are other Lagos residents with worse personal problems than these people who never did the wrong thing when it comes to accommodations. They will survive. This is long overdue; that Makoko is an eyesore, no serious govt will allow that kind of place to exist in a major city like Lagos that is often the first introduction to Nigeria Funny thing, most of the residents are not even Nigerians. They are from neighbouring countries esp Benin. Lagos has a lot of waterways, they can be relocated to one of them far from the city since they claim they are fishermen Another thing govt should check are the logs of wood in the lagoon at 3rd Mainland. It ruins the beauty of that place, makes it look rough. Govt should relocate them too. If Lagos wants to be a top city destination in the coming years, a lot of clean up is needed. Too many slums and shanties everywhere even in Lekki where you have expensive estates, a slum will be next door. What happened to town planning? We can't continue living like animals in the 21st century

@@macanthony1982 Oga, Stick to what you are sure of; I live in the US! Any society that doesn't set good standard for living etc is definitely a failed one. Allowing people to live like animals (those are not even houses .....), is not the way to show love to any class of people. It is not a must that everybody should live in Lagos (if you cannot afford a decent accommodation in Lagos; stay in your state)! The same people who are abusive to the government, are also responsible for the delay in fixing obvious issues in the society.
