Joseph, I went through 3new #80 grit sandpaper rolls today, I was trying to sand a piece of oak that was 5’x 15”x 4” that I was wanting to make a table top. It was some rough saw mill oak that I had for about 6 years. I have about 4 pieces all about the same size. Unfortunately my Dewalt planer is only 12 inches as I sure you know and I didn’t want to cut them down to size fix my planer. I going to sell the sander and buy an industrial plainer and just go back to my Festool ob sanding. Thank you, for a good video
@josephkrug857910 ай бұрын
Yeah it is not a full replacement for a planer for rough sawn wood. In a comparison between steel/carbide cutters vs sandpaper, sandpaper would lose every time. If I was going to try that oak, I would not take super aggressive cuts and work my way down/or clean it up some on my bandsaw first (depending on how much thickness I needed to remove). I believe I got some even coarser grit than 80 for it...in one of those multi pack boxes for the paper, but so far I have not had a reason to use it, ie so far I have run the wood through the bandsaw first where I had very much to take off. Good luck with your plan, I am glad you liked the video even if you do not like the sander for what you need. :)

this may be a dumb question but do the drums spin in the same direction? does one sand and the other pulls the work through, thanks
@josephkrug85793 жыл бұрын
The belt moves it front to back, and I believe the drum spins it against that movement. Otherwise it would just grab it and spit it out the back. It is similar to how you do hand sanding. ie if you think about the board sitting still, you move the sandpaper forward over it, and if the board was moving towards you, it would give you better sanding, but moving away (same direction as your push stroke), you would not sand. So based on physics, it has to rotate and sand against the direction of the feed belt. :)

@josephkrug85792 жыл бұрын
I am glad you enjoyed the video. I have found that if you put the paper in the right place it works every time, but it can be a challenge to make sure to get it in the right place. I have heard from some other people that they attach it on that side first then go the other way to install their paper. But that means if you buy the pre-rolled paper you have to unwrap and wrap it in reverse to use it. In any case I really like my sander so far. If you have any other questions on it, please let me know and I will see if I can help and or make a video explaining what I understand for it.
