One of the largest dams in Japan
Urayama Dam
The dam was originally planned as a central soil impermeable wall-type rockfill dam with a bank height of 165 meters. At that time, it was one of the largest dams in Japan, but later it became possible to change to a gravity-type concrete dam due to project cost reductions and the results of geological surveys, and it was constructed as a dam with a bank height of 156 meters. As a gravity-type concrete dam, it boasts the second highest height in Japan after Okutadami Dam (Agano River system Tadami River; Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. 157 meters). It is a multi-purpose dam that boasts a height of 158 meters, which is second only to the 158 meters of the dam.
