Jamia Masjid Australia is located in Lahore and Like its name its history is also very distinctive. It was built in the starting of 19 th century and it is said that this mosque has played a crucial role in the Independence movement. This was built by my greatgrandfather Khawaja Muhammad Bux. 100 years on, the good continues and multiplies Alhamdolilah. My great grandfather was the first Muslim in Western Australia and my great grandmother was the first woman from the Indian Subcontinent (Source UWA). Our family bore the brunt of the white Australia policy but that is what lead to community initiatives like the Australia Mosque in Lahore, Perth Mosque, Madrassa tul Binat first free Muslim girls school, technical college library for school dropouts and free healthcare for the underpriviliged. This inspires me to continue to do work that replaces hate and discrimination in Australia with peace, love and compassion. I hope and pray that the work we are doing outlives us inshAllah.
