War is the epitome of the double-edged sword. A paradox, It is horrendous, ending millions of lives and causing untold suffering and yet without it we would not have so many of our greatest inventions and achievements.
@jxg16522 жыл бұрын
How do we know with certainity we would not have those inventions without war? How are we going to count the inventions of millions of talentend young minds, their careers ended before they began, as their existences ended on the battlefield? How should we know which achievements we never achieved, as the men and women mastering those feats were torn to pieces before their time?
@GodsWorstServant2 жыл бұрын
@@jxg1652 We probably would have the inventions,but it would take twice as long if we didnt have any competition.Without war we wouldn't nearly have the same stuff as today. Edit:We would probably be decades behind,war has boosted our research in many things,it has pushed us to build things that can be used against other people,and those things can also be used by us in daily life.Not saying without war we wouldn't get to were we are,just saying that we would be far behind in technological advancements.

...so war, the father of everything, is literally good for everything around us? War is dependent origination deep in our minds and its not just an absurd external factor appearing out of nowhere as we choose to believe because we lack the strenght to face reality...
@ellysiumj97488 жыл бұрын
+Klavs Ejsing I wouldn't say "father of everything" - however, in the system created through the mechanisms of progress, such as survival, altruism, social contribution, war is one of the primary catalysts.
@RustyHeels068 жыл бұрын
War is the organizing principle of every advanced society. When man transitioned from hunter/gatherer societies to sedentary cultures, those cultures had to organize for defense against external threats. That's why you see walls and other signs of armed conflict dating back to the earliest of permanent human settlements. In many ways, the nation-state is simply the modern day inheritor of that tradition. So we know that war works as far as means of organizing a society. What's more of an open question is whether mankind can collectively come up with another way of existing which does not involve the use of extreme violence.
@johanfischer-nielsen26862 жыл бұрын
@@RustyHeels06 I think you are partially mistaken. People in settled societies first organized themselves not primarily for defense against outsiders, but to administer the complex tasks that agriculture demands. Of course defense was indeed an important reason to build walls and such, but very much not the only reason that sedentary cultures organized themselves. And many modern western nation-states uses very little of its resources on military expenditure compared to its other administrative expenses. I think this indicates that other tasks are more important and legitimizing than war for many modern states. Such as securing the welfare of the people.
