You two should invest in some cable and a few blocks. I use a 5/16” cable and three blocks. Gets out most of the trees I need. Saves on the back and easier for my truck. 🙂

While you are in the trees, go ahead and girdle trees for next year. Girdling trees is a way to manage your forest. Girdling is done by cutting into the cambium about one inch in around the trunk. I usually make two cuts about four inches apart.

One way to save time would be to cut your firewood to 8 ft lengths and haul down to your sawmill and saw in quarters and then cut to your firewood length. It saves a lot of splitting.
@fisherus
@fisherus 3 жыл бұрын
It's amazing how much heat you get from firewood. It heats you up when you cut it and load it, it heats you up when you split it and stack it and then it heats you up again when you burn it! That's a whole lot of BTU's it brings you. Also makes your muscles ache in the process. That was a pretty slick job of felling, Mike and a nice job of videography work, Liz.

Great Find those look like nice trees. Growing up we heated our home in western PA with wood from 1978-2010. We would cut about 8 cords a winter. We burned mostly Red Oak slab wood we got from the local saw mills. Initially for 15 years we used an old hit n missing international belted to an open 36” blade buzz saw. Kind of dangerous but it was fast. Lay the slab on the tray cut n slide cut n slide. Fast! Later on we moved to chainsaws. We heated with a Warm Morning top loader coal stove. It was nice as you could take out ashes while the fire was running. My dad later wrapped the stove with flexible copper and preheated our hot water heater. It went to an auxiliary tank then to the hot water heater. Free heat and hot water. 👍🏻
