From the first frame, this game digs emotional hooks deep into your soul, and the long ride home title sequence with Beicoli's sorrowful refrain is a cannonball to the heart. Very few games have elicited such a profound emotional response, where the music is so intrinsically tied to the experience. God damn I want an art book and physical soundtrack CD so bad. I think the last game that hit me this hard was Journey.

[Ending spoilers] The ending made me cry. Throughout the game, Laika is shown as someone who is tough and stoic, someone who isn't good with words or feelings. And her last words are telling her daughter, "I love you." And you see the tears in her eyes just before she closes them as she accepts the end. It hits harder knowing the true story of Laika, the dog who became the first living creature to orbit the earth. They sent her into space knowing she wouldn't return. Now she's informally known as the patron saint of one-way trips. When you make it to Heaven, you know you're not coming back. As soon as Puppy calls to say that she bled, the relief and realization hits you like a train. She will survive. She'll grow up. And Laika will die. And that knowledge fuels your last moments as you start shooting like there's no tomorrow, because there won't be one. This game is so tragic, yet beautiful. I'm going to be thinking about it for a long time.

I seem to be soft locked. After the first phrase of the Catapillar made of sadness and obtaining the first key to the pit, the next boss door isn't open? Any tips on how to proceed? Is there something I could have missed? Edit: figured it out, i didn't realize you had to turn the switch wheel with a button, I tried shooting it earlier in game and assumed it was a nonfunctional wheel. Thanks for the video.

Hey, glad you enjoyed the video! No worries about missable achievements in the game. There are no achievements tied to specific moments or mutually exclusive ones, so you can still unlock all of them even after completing the game. There's an autosave before the final boss, allowing you to continue and grab any remaining achievements.

Sparing the wounded bird? It's not really sparing him. You can either kill him outright or leave him to suffer longer, but he's definitely going to die from such an injury. And in my opinion, Laika's character is more aligned with prolonging his suffering, as she enjoys his pain (6:04:02). There's no mercy here; just let him suffer longer.
