I played it yesterday for one hour. This is by far the best concept and most refreshing concept I played in this genre in the last years. I love this game so far.

The little addition to your cursor indicates whether or not you will be safe when you land. If it’s red, you’ll die- white means you’ll land safely. You can aim and flip away with only looking at the cursor now!

Loved this game. Art style and music are on point, soundtrack is well worth a listen. Story is compelling but minimal, some sidequests but nothing I would call filler. Dialogue felt natural, I always felt Laika's actions during the plot were understandable, though her world is brutal. It is a bit difficult at first but personally I really love the 2D riding gameplay and the shooting/reload mechanics felt intuitive to me. You will die a lot but you're never far from a checkpoint and resources lost are easy to gain back. Parrying mechanic took ages to master. I played with mouse and keyboard, aiming with a controller felt off to me and I kept missing. Controller needs a few tweeks to joystick sensitivity maybe? Took me 30+ hours to 100%. Wasn't in a hurry to finish. Best game of 2023 for me.

I am intrigued by the concept of a motorvania, so I'll have to put Laika on my wish list. The protagonist being a badass mother riding a motorcycle also has a certain charm to it.

The PC controls are much more responsive surprisingly, Aiming is barely an issue using a mouse and the simple scheme of W - Forward, S - Stop, A - Balance left, D - Balance left, and space-bar to switch directions. My only complaint was that switching direction does feel a bit sticky all the same. You have to really hold the space-bar longer than you would think so you sometimes catch your self simply sliding instead of turning

yES This 1 really hooked/shocked me at the very beginning hanged in his own guts was pretty much the first line in the game n then i just had to continue to se what else in story would come up!! This game is probably the most different in a long time(That is good too n that is not often unfortunatly),, The steering on pc mouse n keyboard was a little strange,but probably good if not best way to play it if not using a controller.. Thanks 4 this review(i got it at once n played a little just now)..

I've played the demo on GoG and you pretty much nailed it. The controls are something you have to get used to and the difficulty can be absolutely frustrating. I really wanted to like the game, also because it looks really cool but I think I'll pass or wait for a deeeeeep sale. Thank you for sharing :)

My favourite part is when Laika said "It's Laika Time" and then the Birds said "We are the Birds" and then the 1v1 on Fortnite and Laika won but the Bird said "Nah, I won" and dropped the egg, Truly a masterpiece

They should have made it with a jump button to decrease the frustration - simply bad game design. I will download it free but will not pay for it because of this aspect of the game design

"Jump" mechanic comes by means of the shotgun, the first weapon you're told to get the parts for.
