Ergo Proxy is only so so. It has moments of being fantastic and moments of being kinda bad, as well as just being awfully paced. That said, it’s still something I’d highly recommend if you liked Lain

It predicted everything from the Stand Alone Complex to internet consparacies to hoaxes to the dark web and it did it in broad strokes. Which is why the anime takes place in the "present day, present time".
