I was lucky enough to get one of the original Ironlak cans from the mid-2000's that was made in Australia with the hairspray overcap. It was a can of Pineapple Park, and it was outstanding. For a bright yellow, it was almost like sorcery at the time. I was really frustrated with Ironlak around 2009-2011 when they had valve issues and bleed through with their reds and purples. It also smelled terrible, so bad that I started to get migraines while piecing. Some of the colors faded so fast that coming back to a wall that got a dose of morning summertime Colorado sun would make all the touch-ups obvious, like I used a slightly different shade of the original color. I gave up on the brand completely. A friend gave me a couple cases of Ironlak in 2015 or so, and the paint is 1000x better. The valve is just fantastic now, and while the paint might not be as gooey, it's far more stable and consistent. Back in 2009 the Roarke would be dead solid on old bare wood, but the yellows in particular were tinted clear coat. It was so dense that it was basically impossible to get drips. Now the paint feels a bit thinner coming out of the can, but covers so much better as an overall color range. It also doesn't immediately clog thin tips, which is a huge bonus. I actually prefer the super sensitive valve on Ironlak now over some of the more high-end German brands. MTN Hardcore is another paint that I used to dislike because of the valve, but the new cans are so good now. The Ironlak house caps are still really bad. A NY Fat is still the best all-purpose cap in my opinion.

Ny fats are just great on any can. Another thing I love if the cans properly shaken there's no paint that leaks out of the ny fat.. for those days you hit a tag in better clothes

After using the paint from first gen I got in 2007 (yeah I got a can of the Australian formula Pineapple Park with the hairspray top, which was super expensive but amazingly good) through the 2009ish valve issues (Ironleak) and purples eating through light colors (gave up on their paint from 2010 to 2015) and got to try the newest "Lak" cans about a year ago, it's definitely the best formula. They solved the pigment issues at some small expense to coverage and spray pattern. The older formula would cover bare wood easily, but the lightfastness and consistency of one can to the next was trash. The one thing Ironlak hasn't addressed is the inconsistency of their caps. I could go through ten of their Vegan caps and maybe get one that didn't spray like complete garbage. The black and pink stock fats are literally hot mess vomit pattern. I throw away all their stock tips.

This video is a little old so I don't know if I will get a response on this, but I enjoy refinishing guitars and usually load up my spray gun with paint/clear for auto. I was in my local hobby lobby and saw these spray cans and really liked some of the colors so I gave the paint a try (first time using spray cans for this). The color came out GREAT. it covered very well and had almost no sanding to get it perfect. My question is because the color came out great, and I dont want to ruin it w/ the wrong clear, do you have any suggestions on what clear I should use to seal this stuff? I want to go for a high shine that I can put a lot of coats on to give depth to the finish.

Had a can of ironlak literally flowing out of the top of the can when I was out the other night, also noticed brick and concrete seem to drink in the pigment pretty badly. But, they have some dope colours and it's often pretty cheap. Was using the widow cap only though, will deffo try some blue dots now though. Cheers GR.

Yoh man you should try their Vegan Caps and the Sharp Shooters.. Not sure if they still make them but they were great with the old formula .. I used to always throw away the stock tips cause they just ate up too much paint.

I always liked the "smell" of the old Lak....it seems like it's almost a perfume additive that they put into the paint?? Does anyone else feel that way?? Anyways, just ordered 20 some odd cans of this new formulation, so we will see.... pretty disappointed as to the way the paint held on freights....I had a freight return to my spot about a year and a half later and everything minus the black had faded to various shades of white/grey.

I always thought the widow maker caps intention was to clear out the resin snot and not fuck up any of your good caps tryna get that gunk out. Otherwise its a can killer. I think kobra should have one of those. I have to dump like 25% of the paint with a pen just to get the paint to clear up. Wasted so many caps on kobra. After that tho its the best can ive ever used.

I love my lak and iron lak sugar paints.the colors pop,and the sugar is a awesome matt finish...I do,a lot of stencil art...and I love the sugar paint ,as it’s touch dry in minutes (gets hot up here in the Australian queensland sun)...I can get a 7 layer stencil done in a hour....I don’t mind the smell....but I swear Montana 94 white smells like vanilla cake ....or I’ve been out in the sun to long.....plus their Aussie gotta support that...cheers

I finally tried ironlak and I gotta admit they really suck. I'm glad AP stopped selling Lak and started selling montana instead .. but there is one thing I really do like from ironlak and that's the acrylic paint refills .. I put the refills in empty molotow paint markers and it's a really nice combo.

The only issue ironlak every had was the color fade, which took years of sun beating it..besides that the outlines always held up... GR the beginning was bias.. Even the old formula has one of the most variable and controllable valves of all and they have the best colors too.. Augor, Buges both use ironlak old formula correct .. Real writers know, cmon GR lol it's a stock cap to take all that shit out.. Take the 94 for instance, stock skinny cap that clogs asap and still clogs the rest of your caps. Ironlak R&D, beast ass team for a reason.
