Welcome back to one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany.
Lake Constance!
Lake Constance is a 63 km long lake in the foothills of the Alps between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The lake fed by the Rhine consists of two interconnected parts, the lower lake and the larger upper lake.
The shore length of both lakes is 273 km. Lake Constance, also known as the Swabian Sea, is the largest inland waterway in Germany and the third largest lake in Central Europe. The deepest point of the lake is 251 m. Overall, the lake has an area of 571.5 km ².
After the lake night party in Konstanz with a sensational fireworks, the next day we take the car ferry back to Meersburg. Actually, a trip to the island of Mainau was planned. We postpone that to another time and instead take the ferry back to Meersburg. At short notice, we decided to take a look at this beautiful little place right on Lake Constance.
Who would have thought that there is so much to see and hear ...
Meersburg is located on the northern shore of Lake Constance, at the transition from Obersee to Überlinger See at an altitude of 400 to 500 meters. There is a vertical drop of 40 meters between the lower and upper town alone. Surrounded by vineyards you have a wonderful view of the lake. Due to the easy accessibility by boat and car and the particularly idyllic location Meersburg attracts with its partly nationally known restaurants and wine bars in the holiday season about one million day trippers. As one strolls through the streets of the medieval city, one feels the feeling of having landed in another era. The castle Meersburg is considered the main attraction of the city and a visit is highly recommended. Known by the many museums, the wine town offers a picturesque old town and a beautiful waterfront promenade with many restaurants and pretty cafes. Over a delicious sundae we discovered a street musician, who conjured wonderful sounds out of his "hang drum".
It is definitely worthwhile to visit this beautiful landscape around Lake Constance. That's it, see you next time, bye ...
