Watch the Elite series footage from Guntersville last May. Shad spawn was a deal for a lot of guys. Flipping a jig in a little deeper grass won it.

Take a 2/0 O'Shaugnessy hook, 1/8 oz weight, and your favorite ned bait. Texas rig it and go fish the areas you can't normally fish a ned. I honestly don't think anyone else will be doing that. Or they might be, lol. Pro anglers are really smart.

I try and learn as much as I possibly can about bass fishing from those with greater knowledge than myself. One thing I’ve learn by watching 1000’s of videos and reading as much as possible on fishing is 95% of the time guys that do well in tournaments find fish to catch with techniques the like and or feel comfortable with. Sounds like a no brainer but most all the winning anglers make it a point in saying they fished to their strength or the way they like to fish. So do that. Best of luck

I've never have fished the lake part of Guntersville only the river, starting at mud creek & going towards nickajack, if the river has no current it's a hard time, chatterbait is good & swim jigs, even a jig is good, there shouldn't be much grass on the surface, so shallow fishing could be good I've done good with a drop shot, since we haven't had much rain it could be hard, I hope not, for your sake! I know you want to do good, but don't get mad for me saying this, most pros I watch say that they only want to at least get a check, to me that's the wrong way to approach it, I would swing for the fences every time I would try to make it happen because attitude is everything, that lake has bigguns & there's enough to go around ! Hope you win it be safe!

Matt, there's no need to start breaking rods and throwing them. Before you even get there.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
I would press back against the wisdom of bass anglers. In one area (watching some of the anglers on the Tennessee valley impoundments of late). In 2022. Some of whom have struggled with this thing. That it can throw at them (where the fish are around the shallow edges). I would probably push back a small bit. On that score. In relation to rods that will 'cover a lot of area'. John Crews is one of those anglers in bass fishing. Who always looks comfortable. In large open areas of water. With far less numbers of sign posts to guide one (someone described a lake recently that the 'Pro Tour' fished). It had eighty plus anglers in the event. Some of whom on the Pro Tour were relatively new to the location. And they were shocked by how fast that the lake simply 'swallowed' up eighty anglers. When they spread around even a portion of the lake. Those anglers just disappeared. Because the lake was that large in scale.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that was down in Texas recently. In relation to shallow bites in the various river systems and impoundments. Where the Tacklewarehouse tour has been going lately. And this shallow fishing thing. I would push back against something. This problem of having a lot of water. Needing to cover a lot of water (the mentioned 'two days' of practice). On a large piece of water. There are a lot of very good bass anglers. Who have figured out in their careers. Who do deal with scale. How not to be intimidated or impeded by being somewhere. That just swallows up anglers. Even in the early season Florida locations. There are some of those even. That can swallow up anglers (and you throw in tidal elements, where these places 'fish quite small' and in certain time windows). And the anglers have to learn how to accommodate to that. Sure, covering area in that situation. Is important. Or in any situation.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
But I'll be honest. When it comes to that 'ultra' shallow bite (that anglers in Tennessee State often come face to face with). It's probably not like shallow bites anywhere. And it's an aggressive bite too. Where the fish absolutely T-bone the baits in those shallow inches. The wrong way to go there. Might be to do this John Crews type of thing. Of having a lot of reach, plenty of backbone in the rod, and moving it along at a pace. To cover the area. I think when it comes to shallow water bites. I fear that some anglers. Just aren't that aware. Of the benefits of under-sized rods, lines, baits (yes, smaller baits). How efficient that kind of tackle can be. When fishing shallow. Contrary to what one may think. It can be possible to move quicker and cover more area. When one is working shallow. With better, more accurately landed and placed casts. To shallow water. Than trying to force a larger 'set up' to scale down. To what is required when shallow fishing.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
River anglers tend to learn it. As they move up-river, or down-river. When moving down river. You know you have moved out of range. Of your set-up. If you find you are working too hard. To make your fishing work (you're out of reach of your targets constantly). That's when one has to think like a John Crews. To use tackle and set-up's. That make life easier. The opposite is also true (and anglers such as John Cox spent years trying to figure this out). Where they are moving shallow. And they need something. Which is efficient to work with. In smaller situations. And bass anglers forget it. As river anglers we're painfully aware. That when it feels like what you are using. Is becoming over-powered. For the water you are fishing. You actually become less efficient. Even though, you're rod is plenty powerful enough. To cover water that is medium in scale. When you get down to shallow bait working. You're tackle has to adjust to that. To maintain efficiency. And something that worked a few miles down river. Can suddenly become very inefficient and tiresome to work with.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
It's the same when anglers move between different depths (and distances away from shoreline). Those Tennessee valley fish on that shallow bite. Are amazingly shallow. And one might find that as one tries to move into those depths. That the rods that work out at medium depth ranges. Suddenly just create more work. Than they are worth. And baits that are perfectly sized. Outside the shallow areas. Are too much work to throw as well. I'm often shocked. I'm shocked. At what the 'deep' bass anglers throw. Large crankbaits, spoons and various footballs, spinners etc. In the real depth outside. And yet, when the anglers are miles out. It doesn't seem out of context. To work with that equipment. I often think though. That in moving from medium depth up to shallow. That some anglers even at the professional levels. Just don't adjust well enough. Sure the temptation on a large piece of water. Might be to 'cover water'. Yet, one has to be careful. To balance that too. Against consideration of one's depths. And if one is obliged to follow fish (even in early morning shad spawn bites etc). Into only inches. The medium depth tackle set-up's. Really won't do.

Matt you go in that tournament not like you practice better than your practice just like you tell us bank fisherman when we’re on the bank don’t go for it obvious spot like you just caught it which are used to don’t go to where you’re used to think outside the box I know you’re probably saying this guy went to hell trust me I’ve been thinking outside the box lately and I’ve been catching numbers of fish every time I go out and that’s not like me a lot of times I get that skunk and it’s sad that I haven’t because one day I’m a go out somewhere nice and it’s gonna happen but long as I keep my head in the game and I listen to what you people tell me even if it’s too quality fish or fish and when I’m on a boat it’s more than just two and for some reason 3.5 and three eights been my number lately I wish you a happy trip safe trip and I hope that you finish in a good range if not on top
