This unique shade is caused by the presence of the bacterium Dunaliella salina and halobacteria. These microorganisms thrive in the lake's high salinity and produce carotenoids, an organic pigment, that give the water its distinctive pink color. The lake is safe for swimming, and the color remains even if the water is placed in a container.
