I mean, seems pretty obvious that they’re still hoping Vando and Wood can contribute SOMETHING this year if only to get closure and use their contracts in a trade as salary ballast, or as useful members of the rotation. That said, it also makes sense to give them that time as you’ve got about 30 days to let this group gel a bit, allow Vando/CWood to get back and work off the rust, and then see exactly where the holes need to be plugged. Getting DFS bought them some time, but Kessler and Fultz/DSJ/another POA 3&D guard or wing would go a long way

Why do so many fans of the Lakers believe that their fantasies of owning a spot in the Lakers front office trump the experience and outright awesomeness of the Buses and there worthy and much-valued choices for their various roles building and maintaining our team? Fantasy play and people's investments in paid chat commentary are way out of hand. I trust in how the Lakers front office chooses to continue building this team without the slobbering amateur opinions coming from expectant social media commentary. Keep rocking and rolling Rob, Jeanie, and JJ. Thanks for writing and podcasting so eloquently about it all, Jovan

My favorite target overall is Ayo Dosunmu. If there ends up being a chance for him, he has a ton of upside. Age 24 could be a very long term piece next to AR. But this Mailbag seems to be more directed at players who are more “realistic” though to be fair Jakob and Kessler are both technically not on the market, postering aside. Still if it is a viable option, he stands out for multiple reasons. Basically a Max Christie type with underrated point guard skills added and an extra year or 2 of development.

we are like the no 18th team in 3 point shooting rn. i am not saying we have to be top 5 of the elite shooting teams but we do need a scoring wing that also does not get exposed on the other end. a piece like jerami grant and cam johnson would literally be perfect! bruce brown helps too but i really think against certain elite teams, we need our own scoring punch too. just recently we faced top 2 teams in the west and east and both teams were up by 20 at some point against us because we dont have that extra scoring punch.

One quick thought on the back up five situation. Maybe JJ is playing smalball mit Rui DFS und LBJ at the 5 because he has no trust in the abilitys of Jaxon and Koloko to play the way Walker Kessler would play. Tell me if I’m wrong here new era of NBA is structured around an 1 ultra athletic offensively gifted guard and secondarily a big who either dominates with his IQ/Defense/Scoring or all 3 abilities … that’s the foundation for a good team in todays game we got : Edward’s& Gobert Mitchell & Allen Fox & Sabonis Green & Sengun Murray& Jokić Ivey& Duren Ja & JJ Shai & Chet I’m sure I’m missing some . A team with these 2 pillars. But all 5 on the floor being 2 way players. But also to compliment your 2 pillars surrounding is one player being a connective player with elite IQ and the other 2 just plain complimentary 2 way players On the Lakers AD is our one pillar as a big AR is a high IQ player who can score but not a 2 way player and not athletic guard Lebron is an elite high IQ player who can score but also not an athletic guard . At most in a winning team with his age Lebron should fill the role of a connection player with championship level high IQ . Like a bigger athletic Jason Kidd in that Mavs run with Dirk . We’re just built different. Idk if it’s a recipe for success. We’re closer to what the Heat Bam& Butler era than any other team today We’re missing a number one AD is a #2 Lebron should be a #3 AR is a #4 possible 6th man because he’s not 2way

Cleveland starts a double big lineup with Mobley and Allen with Mobley only taking 3 threes a game and Allen being a non-shooting threat. Maybe the Lakers can also benefit from moving AD to the 4. Lakers badly needed a center. They dont need a stretch center. They just need a guy who can help AD in the paint to get rebounds and protect the rim. Lakers already have good wings but tey need to trade Rui. I don't trust Vando and Wood those two needs to retire asap. Gabe is good but he is always injured. AR is fine but they are also lacking with a perimeter bac up guard and a legit ball handler. Everyone knows that AR is not a good ball handler. Pressure him and he will lose the ball immediately. Would look at Lonzo and Torrey Craig over Bruce Brown (let’s say Rui, JHS, Hayes). Some greater injury concerns but has much more body of work this season and offers much more upside especially if the goal is to start Max still. 24 mil I think for both vs 23 just for Bruce and I don’t see you needing a first at all. I also like Cody Martin over Gabe, can try for Nick Richards there or if it’s just Cody Martin it still has value. Added size, length and athleticism with a very similar role especially if you add Lonzo. Now you can start Max, or Cody Martin at the 2 without giving up size, Cody will offer slightly better Secondary ball handling next to AR. None are home run trades, but some real value. Have both firsts for one more move if wanted…potentially.

Probably has to be Rui, JHS and Wood for that math, though not bothering with Spotrac for the hypothetical.

@@gregnoble8063 agreed, he’s on a minutes restriction so coming off the bench is no big deal. His Team metrics and defensive contributions are really good, and I’m guessing his shooting comes around more (Brown also not very good). But I like the idea of retaining him most of all. You get his bird rights, and he is unlikely to cost a lot to keep. Could be a terrific post Lebron piece as well as current piece. There is still a lot of risk, but has a lot of upside.

@@OrangeSunset-CrashingWaves what do you think of Jalen Smith in that trade as a backup 4/5? Former top pick on a don't contract?

@@gregnoble8063 solid player, can shoot a little, but don’t think he gives you more than Woods, and similar defensive abilities to Hayes. I like Koloko the most of the 4 for defense and rebounding.

I don’t understand the Brown Jr fixation. Contract is too high (23mil) & poor shooter (3pt. 33.6%). Great defender but the salary trade off is minor upgrade at best.
