I watched the Showtime Lakers in real time back in the 80's, and when I think back on them, I always think of Magic, Kareem, and Worthy.

I couldnt find footage but i remember a spin move and dunk against bill lambier in the 88 finals that was so quick that bills feet never moved as if they were in blocks of concrete.

Played the 4 and the 2 #42 in a system. Magic was agile like a SF but wanted to be where the SG was, He played like a PF so they moved him to PG & ran like SGs. What makes this so cool is Larry Bird a SF #33, Unblockable just like the Center #33 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In a 2-3 86’ Celtics system, he Shot 3s better than Danny Angie plus difficult shots like a PF Mchale.

Remember that game 4 in 1989 Pistons,we lost Bryant Scott and Magic to injuries,Worthy scored 40 points,could have 50 if wasn't tired down strech.Pistons was determined to win chip,well deserved.We would've threepeat if not injuries to Magic and Scott

The thing about James Worthy that people never mention or give him praise for is he was the #1 OVERALL pick in the 82 Draft. Over Dominique Wilkins,Terry Cummings amongst other players in that draft who had solid careers(And the draft went 10 rounds in those days).HE LED JORDAN TO HIS ONLY COLLEGIANT TITLE! Even Jordan has said that Pippin couldn’t hold Worthy’s jock strap. But Pippin gets all the praise,even though,head to head,Worthy used to eat Pippin for lunch 😂.It’s a shame,for him,he went to the World Champion Lakers squad and had to play with Magic & Kareem. He would have been a franchise player in his own right,but because of that,his greatness is watered down. Think about it 🤔,he is the reason for the draft lottery,as the NBA had to come up with a way that the best team didn’t get the best players coming out of college. THINK ABOUT THAT! And he doesn’t even have a statue outside of Staples Center. Sad….

So in 1985 Worthy shoots .721 against the nuggets in a 4-1 series win for LA. In 1987 Worthy shoots ..722 against the nuggets in a 3-0 sweep for LA. You can watch the games, even when the Nuggets tried to slow him down it was tomahawk time. Imaging Worthy in today’s game is unfair

This is probably one of the reasons why a lot of people hate the Lakers. It seems so unfair that they could steal Worthy at the draft and add another HOF to the team filled with Kareem, Magic and great supporting players.

Worthy is still within my top 5 Lakers of all time. #1-Kobe #2-Magic #3-Worthy #4-Kareem #5-Shaq For me… Kobe is the most skilled player on both sides of the ball as well as the most fundamentally sound. He could score on anyone and at any time. He was also a dominant defender. Simply put… he took over games and never backed down from the best opponents. He was the Black Mamba. Magic was my favorite player until Kobe came into his own. Magic made the NBA fun to watch. He mastered the no look pass, the Coop-a-loop and he was the catalyst behind the fast pace Showtime Lakers. Worthy was “Big Game James” for a reason. He was a dynamic scorer who could score at the rim and he was never scared to take a big shot. Worthy also played suffocating defense. Kareem is still the most accomplished player in NBA history. The sky hook is considered unstoppable still to this day.

Lebron should of played like James Worthy instead. #42 mentality just as cool as #24 Kobe, 07-10 playing SF shooting all positions shots 2-4 & 1-5 when he was 🔥 the 🔺 was the 3-2 motion Shaq made it a 4 out-1, Kobe made it 1-4 stacked more than MJ. it became more like a 2-3 in 07-10 with the other options when kobe became Black mamba 🐍🖤 Now it’s 5 out Steph Warriors and 5-out Denver they both default back to a 3-2, Denver also has a 4-1 in there system it has 3 options.

Imagine the Lakers drafted Dominque Wilkins over Worthy. As great as Worthy was, imagine Dominque running the fastbreak with Magic, and all the flashy passes and dunks.

Worthy was just a consolation prize. The Lakers wanted Ralph Sampson, but Sampson wouldn't declare for the draft at the end of the 1982 college season because the Lakers hadn't won the coin toss yet. Sampson didn't want a 50% chance to go to the San Diego Clippers so he stayed in Virginia for his senior year. Imagine the Lakers got Sampson. With his bad knees, his tenure would have been over in 4-5 years.
