@Eastra32 ай бұрын
@@wills.9422 true, but the initial comment was irrelevant for this past post-season, because Jamal shot poorly all playoffs, mostly because he was coming off of injury, but those two crunch time daggers he had on us was traditional 1/5 pick n roll, in which LBJ took the assignment of defending Murray, and when AD and LBJ swapped, AD had to defend Murray in space, and Murray hit some wild jumpers on AD. So if Murray had anyone’s number, it was AD, but we know AD doesn’t guard Murray most of the time, so that would be a silly stance to take. That’s why I say that Murray really didn’t have anyone’s number last year in the playoffs. We really got beat primarily by Jokic mismatches once again, forcing us to double team a lot, and then Rui being forced to chase MPJ around screens was the next biggest issue we had defensively. AR actually did a pretty good Job on Murray, albeit a 70% Murray.
@wills.94222 ай бұрын

Murray was Primarily guarded by AR in the 4th. Plus AD/LBJ, took the assignment at the end of the games we lost by buzzar beater because they didn’t trust Austin Reaves 😂… AR didn’t guard Murray well he just shot badly because he scored without effoet in the 4th.. Oh yeah Rui sucked too, which is why Ham didn’t want him either starting and the reason he didn’t start against denver last year.. maybe just maybe the coach wasn’t all that bad l
@Eastra32 ай бұрын
@@wills.9422 A few things.... 1) Murray or MPJ can get anything they want in the 4Q, when Denver stops playing around with us, because they know we are choosing to take away Jokic after he would dominate the first 3 quarters. The problem is that we cannot slow Jokic down with one guy like we could in 2020 with Dwight. So what happens is we have to double team Jokic, which makes it impossible for our PF or C to help our perimeter players when Denver screens for Murray or MPJ, essentially leaving our perimeter defenders out to dry. So Murray and MPJ are not the source of our problems with Denver, it's Jokic. Reaves and Rui are not ideal perimeter defenders, but even if we had ideal perimeter defenders, we still would have had issues, because of the screens. Being a good defensive screen navigator doesn't guarantee that you will always be able to get back into the play, just that you will be able to get back in the play more times than most defenders. Remember we had Schroeder with his elite defense guarding Murray, and it made no difference from Schroeder to D'lo to Reaves, because all three of them were getting screened out of plays with no help from the bigs, like they had in the Memphis and GS series, as those teams didn't have an interior threat that AD couldn't handle. Rui is good, but he's really a PF being played out of position so that LBJ can coast on defense, and our two best wing defenders in Vando and Reddish, which both can navigate screens, were unavailable. Rui doesn't really fit on the team, but he is talented in my opinion. 2) The time we lost against Denver in the conference finals, Vando got played off the floor, because AD couldn't guard Jokic, and we needed more size in the front court so that AD didn't have to guard Jokic the whole game. Rui, although bigger and stronger than Vando, still isn't big and strong enough for Jokic. So basically, because the Lakers were stubborn for 2 straight off-seasons, and decided to not get a strong defensive big man, that had issues matching up with Denver, which is a big team. You don't have to have a big team to beat Denver, but it makes it easier, and if you don't have strong interior defense, your perimeter defense better be elite, in which the Lakers playing an AD LBJ frontcourt are big enough for most teams, but not the Nuggets, and we didn't have an elite perimeter defense. So I knew we were going to lose to them both years, but most Laker fans were delusional thinking we had a chance. So Ideally Ham knew Rui had redundant issues with LBJ, and wanted to bring Rui off the bench, not because Rui wasn't starter material. Ideally Vando would have started with potentially Reddish supplanting him, as Reddish has true 2-way potential, but the latter 2 were hurt the majority of the year, so Rui was the best option. Prince was close to being a two way player, which is why Ham leaned on him a lot, but Prince isn't the best on defense, and with D'lo, LBJ, and AD scoring, its more important that you can play defense beside them. So yeah, Ham wasn't a bad coach. The injuries made it difficult to find optimal line-ups, as most of the 2-way players were hurt. Then, I predicted that we would lose to Denver in the first round and that Ham would be fire to no fault of his own, because Pelinka and LBJ, who control personnel decisions, decided it wasn't important to get a strong defensive center. Ham actually had good offensive and defensive schemes, although he didn't use the most optimal schemes, which JJ probably wont either, but Ham's downfall was that he let LBJ do what he wanted on offense, and it caused the Lakers to waste possessions in the 4th quarter when LBJ tried to play hero ball. JJ will run into the same issue as Ham unless he can keep LBJ from falling into the temptation to play for his Ego. JJ will also have the same issues with Denver unless the Lakers get an appropriate center off the bench to help AD. The slight improvement I think JJ will have is that he will have the Lakers run their sets more, but like I said, he'll have to manage LBJ's ego for that.

Bron ran the offense, made a majority of all the big clutch plays throughout last year, played D in the crucial moments and still out scored AD in the reg season AND playoffs. Bron accepted that AD is not a 1A guy and that’s okay cuz with the right roster composition, healthy AD is the best 1B in the game
@Eastra32 ай бұрын
D’lo isn’t a bad fit if every other perimeter player in the starting line-up was a solid to very good perimeter player. If you had Reaves be the 6th man, and Gabe Vincent (or some other high level POA defender) start next to D’lo, half of your perimeter defensive issues would evaporate, although you still need to find a true 2-way SF to fix the other half. The closest SF we have to being a 2-way wing is Cam Reddish, especially around our In season tournament phase, he was super impactful. The Lakers had some 2 way players, but almost all of them were injured, and some of our best 1 way defenders were also hurt. So if we trade for a 2-way player, they need to be someone that is an iron man.

@@gekkouga1313 You aren’t wrong, but while your comment seems crazy now, considering ‘experts’ thought he would fall to the Lakers, and that the Lakers wouldn’t have had to give up anything to potentially draft him; 10 years from now your comment will make perfect sense when Edey is dominating, and he will be worth 5+ first round picks at the minimum to even begin a trade discussion without getting hung up on. Although I wanted Edey on the Lakers, I knew that the Grizzlies was his best possible destination, because he will have a bigger role from the start, and not have to navigate the dangerous waters of being considered a potential bust due to coming off the bench and not being able to put up big numbers, due to LBJ not retiring for another possible 3 years. Lakers just need to focus on using those 1st rounders to get a physical defensive big man that has some versatility on offense, rather than a big name player at the guard or wing position. For the SF spot, we only need a 3/D, so we can either draft and develop, trade for one, or get one in FA for a decent price, but there is no need to deplete assets for perimeter offense.
@gekkouga13132 ай бұрын
@Eastra3 I wanted Edey on the Lakers as well. I believe he would've started right away because A.D had been saying for years that he didn't wanna play the 5. That's where Edey would've fit that 5 spot perfectly, moving A.D. back to the 4 & and moving Lebron to the off-guard spot. As for the 3 spot, If they were able to free up some roster slots, they could've picked up Robert Covington off free agency. He would've filled that spot well.
@Eastra32 ай бұрын
@@gekkouga1313 I also want AD to go back to the 4, but LBJ is apparently not wiling to play the 3, because with another big on the floor along side AD, LBJ will be expected to run around with the opposing 3 by default. Often times you can play one position on offense and play another position on defense if a teammate can slide up or down for you, but Edey nor AD can slide up, only down, and although some of our guards can slide down, that would only make LBJ have to chase guards, which is even worse than chasing a SF. Then if you want to talk about LBJ playing a guard spot on offense, LBJ no longer has the lateral explosion he used to have to get by quicker defenders. So LBJ is the only thing preventing AD from being a full time PF, but when LBJ goes to the bench, we can bring in a C and slide AD up to the PF, which is why I say that Edey would have had to come off the bench, although Edey is a starting caliber player at the very least.

@MBeano2 ай бұрын
@@MassiahProfit Your comment completely ignores the whole bigger picture. 1) Your comment ONLY makes sense if DLo is GONE from LA. Which clearly is NOT the given scenario. (KEEPING DLO was the second objective). 2) DLo/Reaves pairing is the problem. Again, your comment lacks the bigger picture, only taking DLo's stats into consideration. DLo is/was great for the Lakers in regular season. HOWEVER, at least THREE major things occurs in the DLo/Austin pairing: 1) There is redundancy on their offensive strengths when just considering those two. 2) Redundancy in their defensive liability. Individually defense is NOT one of their strengths, together that is compounded. 3) There is major redundancy in playing - ALL 3 of your best playmakers, BY FAR on on the court together, which means your aren't maximizing any of their playmaking, AND you leaving the bench unit with nothing. We all witnessed the PROOF of this as they lost huge leads repeatedly/consistantly. Also, when looking at when DLo cooked the most, is when Bron and/or AR were not with him. Many of DLo's breakout performances were when Bron was out and/or he and/or Reaves played less minutes. There is only one ball. The splitting up of DLo/AR will also potentially improve the games of Christie/Knecht as each would be paired with Lakers best playmakers (Vincent, isn't even close, even at his best). This would likely also give Christie/Knecht more reps to grow, and prepare them for the post season. Looking the stats for last year, Offense was not their biggest issue. In fact. by end of regular season they were a top 5 ranked offense. They gave up big leads when the second unit was in. That doesn't happen if you have better playmaking and defense on the second unit. DLo being the better playmaker, can more easily improve the second unit. You dont need him with Bron and AR.

I think Dlo has a breakout year possibly all star caliber under Redick & his shooting. Reaves kills it off the bench and leads a great second unit group w Knecht & Rui & Wood. LBJ min gets limited w Rui playing PF and thrives in his role. Allows LBJ to play 25-28 min a game. This will allow the first unit to get big leads and the second unit won’t lose the lead because it will be great with the scorers on the floor, Reaves, Knecht, Rui, and Wood. 28:24 last year we cried about "just getting lebron to the playoffs and he do the rest" but to be real lebron sucks against nuggets. In playoffs Dlo did what we asked he carried us to the playoffs not his fault lebron overrated ass choked went 0-22 for 3pters lets not forget that in the series against Denver .

Does D'lo get mentally fucked up in the playoffs!? Maybe he needs to see a psychologist.
