I watched Harley Quinn BIRDS OF PREY...now I want a sandwich ( Movie Commentary & Movie Reaction)

I came for Margot Robbie left wanting an Egg Sandwich.
Today I'm watching Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and you should too.
I didn't hear much about this movie at least not as much as I hear about other movies so let's watch it.

It's not Stockholm Syndrome. That's when a victim who is a hostage bonds with their captor. Harley willing fell in love with Joker; she chased him. He wasn't interested in her. That's their history. Don't get it twisted, their relationship was very toxic and he's abusive, which she didn't see or admit to for a long time, but she wasn't some helpless pure-hearted girl. She was delusional; a groupie basically.

The abuse part came after. So it's not Stockholm Syndrome. It was more denial that he was abusive; she purposefully blinded herself to it.

@@MayMayhoe If you know anything about the DC comics then you’d know how inaccurate the movie is to birds of prey. The only thing they got right was Huntresses backstory (originally they let her live cuz she was a girl) and Harley is nothing like Harley in the comics or cartoons, Robbie does a great job but it’s the writing that fucks it up. Cassandra was a horrible choice for the movie, she’s bat girl but they made her a villain. The movie is a great gateway for a birds of prey two (Harley isn’t apart of any of the birds of preys in the comics btw) one without Harley. But a horrible way to introduce poison Ivy. Edit: also when they broke up the joker was pissed and Harley was becoming a new person. (The TV show got it right)

Well maybe because she has some problems regarding her mom's death, is why I think she had this like refusal to use her powers because she didn't want to follow in her mother's path and end up dying like she did. So when she finally used the canary cry, it was like an ode to this possibly being the first time in a long time that she's used her powers, so she'll possibly get more training as time passes.

Well the thing is this movie does not do a good job with having someone understand the dynamics of Harley and jokers relationship. Even in the suicide squad they just kind of glide over there relationship. Which I think is the biggest problem with this movie. Like if I am going off of the last movie that she was in the joker in the suicide squad was way more gentle caring Of Harley compared to every single in a verson of their relationship. without actually seeing where all this pain or stuff comes from it makes it hard to really care about the character.

I actually disagree. Their stories are cool, but more conventional(on screen). They would also not be such unreliable narrators as Harley is, and a big part of the movie is about unreliable narration, distortion between reality and what happened, and piecing things back together while not going grimdark in tone. Harley gives the perfect POV for that type of "meta" narrative. That said, I´m all for a Huntress show

i think the issue with harley breaking up with the joker is that in suicide squad, the relationship is shown as love rather than the toxic abusive relationship that it is. So in this film her breaking up with him doesnt nake nuch sense. If they would have done a solo film with Jared & Margot and really shown how toxic the relationship was as well as let Jared actually be the Joker - the breakup up would have done well cause you have to remember- the average audience member more than likely hasn't seen the animated series nor read a comic. so there knowledge of this couple is coming strictly from this movie

Well tbf, there *was* gonna be a Joke and Harley Quinn movie, but it got cancelled. Also, the Suicide Squad movie was apparently a Justice League situation, where the movie was heavily changed from the original vision for it. In one of the scripts for Suicide Squad, Harley was even going to hook up with Deadshot towards the end of the film.

Loved your reaction to BoP and I agree with you, this movie definitely deserves more hype. I watched it at the cinema and really loved & enjoyed it, I still do whenever I watch it. It has a great cast and amazing characters. One thing though, it's not just R-rated because of the strong language, you've got the faces peeled off, people blowing up to pieces... sure it's done colorfully but it's all there 😂

I literally saw this last night and it is SO MUCH better than I thought!! It is so fun to look at and the sleaze balls genuinely gave me the creeps and made me scared. It may have faults but it wasn't anything major that hindered with just having fun and relating to the emotions. I heard some of the criticisms men had to say about this movie and it's really telling how entitled they are to being sexually indulged while even a lot of women have some degree of internalized misogyny.

YEEE Doctor Jones is coming up!!! - I am also a big movie buff, as an ageing white guy I am always into watching classics I grew up with and sharing them people I want to know their perspective of the movie. When they say walk a mile in an other person's shoes. Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Generation X person ( '80s were cool), but I am also aware some of those classics did not age well. Re-watching them threw a younger generation spectrum ( cause I am not young anymore and never were neither black or a women or American) is adding a whole new level of enjoyment of my yearly marathon of classic trilogies. Star Wars was better this year 'cause of you. And the reason I chose your channel to subscribe out of the all the other ones, You took note of John Williams music soundtrack. That man's music is a path to a great movie lists some consider classics. ;) Keep up the good work, you might not have known but you are helping mending the world with your videos. hey, just to add in the comics, Joker and Harley were TRULLY toxic and abusive. Joker hit her, pushed her, tried to murder her and so many other abusive shit. In Suicide Squad, the movie, it was all very romantized and DC got critics for that, for obvius reasons. Thats why in this, Quinn gets away from him, i think.

Fun fact the original version of the huntress was from Earth 2 and was named Helena Wayne the daughter of Batman and Catwoman but when Earth II was destroyed they made an Earth One version named Helena Bertinelli
