A little update on Lala as he nears 15 years old! Love this little dude in all his greatness!!!

Yellow Napes are great parrots. I have one and he is about 42 yrs old, I am his second Daddy. A little advice that I had found out recently, unfortunately, cut back on the seed you are giving your bird. Mine started having seizures one weekend and I took him to a vet where I found out he had blocked blood vessels and some of the plax had broken off and had gone to his brain. I am now feeding him a strictly ZuPreem pellet diet, a mixture of the fruit blend (3.5 lb), nut blend (3.5 lb) and pure fun (2 lb). You can give seed as a treat but cut back on the sunflower seed. My little buddy is doing great now but it was a real scare for me because I love him so much. I hope your Lala has a long life.

Its really sad that the "common knowledge" is that birds eat seed, when its the bird equivalent of feeding a kid bacon cheeseburgers for every meal. And its what you'll find being sold as "bird food" in most pet stores, who really should know better! Its not going to hurt them right away, but you're setting them up for long-term problems.

Excellent advice! Lala is a gem! I can see in his feathers that he would thrive with a change in diet. More fresh foods and cut the seeds back to occasional treat. He may resist a diet change but you can easily switch him over by mixing nutritious foods in with seeds, gradually increasing proportion of fresh foods and a pellet if you choose (opinions vary but I have been recommended organic, like TOPS, BirDelicious, Harrisons, even Roudybush has maintained some healthy Amazons). Wonderful to see such a happy, loved YNA - they are really amazingly loving, smart, fierce birds! Enjoy your treasure and thanks for sharing 💚💛💚

@@Unlimitedgearmall Thank you I do. I miss my little guy so much, my neighbor thought it would be a good idea to throw off a bug balm and it killed my poor baby while I wasn't home to protect him. that was 30 years ago and I still miss his little voice every day...LaLa is a beauty

Poor bird’s feather condition is not good. Too many seeds, poor nutrition, no baths, and no exrecise

Please, his diet is atrocious. He needs pelleted food, fresh veggies and fruiet, and seeds and nuts only as training treat. His feathers show very poor health, and you are seriously shortening his life! Bring him immediately to an avian vet and have him checked. I would be surprised if the poor bird doesn't have devastating fatty liver disease and possibly terminal liver disease! No amazon parrot should have a bowl of sunflower seeds.... or any seed/nut mixture as their main food.
