My son had his ties released at 4 weeks old and he’s 9 weeks old now. We weren’t given any kind of therapy except stretches to prevent reattachment. We just started seeing a feeding therapist and she gave us some exercises that are similar to what you have done in this video. How soon do you normally see improvement when doing these exercises 3-5x a day? I so badly want to exclusively breastfeed my son and he’s been struggling with both nursing and bottle feeding. He swallows a lot of air due to a weak tongue (and gets super gassy and fussy) and does a lot of “chomping” to compensate rather than using his tongue to get the milk out.

Mine does the same. It’s been 3 weeks since the release was done at 5 weeks old. We are seeing a chiropractor and feeding specialist, but have not seen any improvement. I’ve heard some moms say it takes six months for their child to be able to suck again.

Update - I was told by a pediatric dentist that the pediatrician did not fully release the lip and tongue tie or they reattached. We have decided not to have any more procedures done. We are going to continue therapy to try to get her using a bottle again. I met a mom whose had it released 3 times with no progress so we decided to let it be.

We only got a word document with exercises and tbh I had no clue how to do the exercises. After watching your video and doing the exercises couple of times it all made sense. Hope my babygirl will be able to be breastfeed. Pump is sooo painful. Thanks so much!
@lalactation Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you found the video helpful. Pumping shouldn’t hurt!!!! Please make sure you have the right size flanges as that is a big culprit for pain. Take my pumping class for knowing how to do that. lalactation.teachable.com/p/pumped
@andreambsflow5931 Жыл бұрын
@lalactation thank you, I have a look. I spent money for different flanges, maybe I should try a different brand that can be used with Medela. I use oil before and nipple cream after. It is still very uncomfortable. Maybe because I had augmentation before?
@lalactation Жыл бұрын
I find most people need a 17-19mm, although it’s based on your size. Once people get into the smaller sizes, many prefer LacTeck flanges or flange inserts for a more comfortable experience.

I have a question, can you please help with an advice? 🙏 my baby had tongue tie and is not extending his tongue that much (rarely I see it over the gums) and I think that s the reason he is struggling to maintain a seal at the bottle (i m exclusively at the bottle). Unfortunately we were not able to do the exercices after the procedure, but the tongue did not re attached, that s for sure. Which would be the best exercices for him? He s having 3 months.

I have the same case with you. My baby is 3 months old when her TT was released but after the post surgery she still doesn't extend her tongue though im pretty sure the ties had not reattached but could still hear clicking sound when she's breastfeeding.

Do you have any advice for moms breastfeeding who do not want to have babies tongue tie cut? Can I stretch it with exercise?

Anatomy is anatomy. Baby will not outgrow a tie. Exercises can help strengthen the tongue but not improve range of motion if it’s truly tied

@lalactation3 жыл бұрын
How old is baby? If older than 4 months the suck reflex has integrated and baby needs to choose to suck. Are you working with an OT or SLP? Highly recommend feeding therapy or working with a good pediatric therapist!!
