With infants, when they cry for an extended period of time, watch their legs. When upper gastro gas, they bring their legs up to their torso so you know to burp. When lower gastro gas or constipation, they kick their legs straight out. They tell us what's wrong if we know what to watch for.

When my nephew was a baby I would do this and add a pedaling/stepping motion. I’m no baby expert so I can’t say if that motion was better or worse but my nephew thought it was fun, especially if I made him pedal to the rhythm of Barracuda by Heart.

This is what grandmas used to teach new mommies. Now, grandma is not considered necessary to help new mommies. Mommies may live long distances from maternal grandma, so we have been replaced by classes at the hospital and online videos. This is a great video!

I put myself in this position when I’m having GI issues. Lay with my back on the floor, legs bent and resting on the couch (like I’m sitting in a chair if I were upright) I then massage upper middle part of my gut. I have an ileostomy and gas is very very painful along with the right angle I have right before my stoma and food can push up and cause so much pain.

If this one doesn’t work, I would place my tiny peanut (smaller babies can be a bit more in need of improvisation to get those pesky bubbles moving properly) with me in a seated position, place get tummy over one of my legs with her legs dangling between mine, make sure to not bring yours together this is not a try to squish bb lol, then pat their back (make sure softest squishy part of their tummy is over your thigh and then bouncing your leg gently pat the back and kind of move baby so that they are at an angle where they are more head up than just folding over your leg totally. Just not trying to put pressure on their sternum or chest obviously so position them so they can kinda be up just a tiny bit and you are giving that juggling bounce to the entire tummy and intestines and they are in a position that makes the bubble either go up towards their head or to their bum. Over the shoulder up a bit higher so that their tummy is resting on your shoulder and patting is another one. A lot of ppl tend to have just their heads resting on your shoulder but that’s not enough pressure on their tummy to get that bubble out of its spot then use the bouncing or rocking in a chair and patting their back to get that bubble to move along.

Thankfully, my kids didn't suffer from this issue...but my eldest biological kid (I'm bio dad to three, but "Dad" to five total) had other stomach issues. For whatever reason (prematurity, development issues, whatever), she was having trouble keeping milk or formula down...any time she'd drink, she'd almost immediately spew it all back, so she was losing weight, despite our best attempts. After a while, though (after several formula changes), she managed to start keeping stuff down and she took off, weight-wise.

Breast fed babies rarely get gassy. I almost never had to burp my babies on breast feeding either. If they have a good latch you’re sailing. Cow’s milk is for baby cows, not humans 😁 and mothers milk is FREE

In India we are very careful about the diets of moms especially in south India because if the mom eats food it goes into the baby through her milk . Every day we give them a conciution called Rasam with tamarind, Tomato and seasoning of pepper and cumin .It is very easy to digest. In fact we added this powder to Gerber food as well and it is very good for digestion.just a pinch.
