I belive it, the guy is a genius! To come out with the idea to make a movie that touches such a sensitive theme as the holocaust, (you already know there's going to be drama) but the way he managed to include comedy in this masterpice, without hurting sensibilities, and in such a beautifully touching way, is just magical! ... And then to win an Oscar for best foreign film, in a time where most movies have to include sex scenes, or faul language to be relevant!! Like I said, a genius! I can't thank God enough for people like him, that with their art, creativity and particular vision of life, make this world a much better place.

I am Italian and I can assure you Benigni is very fluent in his own language and an erudite man. He has a very strong Tuscan accent, but I personally never heard him say a word in dialect. He has a very deep knowledge in Italian, speaking it perfectly. So, I don't quite understand why, when he goes on American shows, he pretends to be how in USA people imagine the "classical Italian" - I think that accent in English to be fake. He can speak English much better, he does it on purpose.

Benigni's English is perfectly fine. The last person I heard to say "quell" as in "I fail to quell my enthusiasm" (00:38) was Jeeves by Stephen Fry. Benigni's accent is caricatured of course, that's what the American public expects and welcomes in a funny foreigner. He plays the part and, surely, gets his kicks from this little deception.
@luigibrioschi9704 жыл бұрын
here on youtube there is an extract from an old canadian interview (I believe from 1993) where he explains that they used to give him parts with thick italian accents and he just went along and kept it... in that interview he speaks with a noticeable italian accent as well, but the difference with his most famous english bits is huge

i dunno mate.. he maybe was, but clearly he's not argued my point so far, so, maybe he wasn't ironic.

you emigrated from italy because you gratuated in something and you couldn't find a job in italy, don't you...
@sancho60599 жыл бұрын
no, actually I'm Italian, I live in Italy and I'm not sure if I want to emigrate. Italy is now in an awful situation but that doesn't mean I shall leave my country without tryin' to change its government !

Roberto is awesome! This is also why Conan is so good -- he is so nice and plays along.

I love the fact that Conan isn't afraid to get out of his seat to interact with his guests and encourage the audience's participation....maybe that's why he's the best host?! I think so! :D

Amazing, Benigni and Conan as well, although they speak different languages, they put on a hell of a show! Love when people from different places cooperate =D
