Keerthana and Kruthi Bhat from Houston, TX, USA are flourishing Carnatic musicians, trained by their mother, Smt. Rajarajeshwary Bhat and maternal uncle, Sri. Vittal Ramamurthy, and mentored by other eminent gurus. Since their earliest days of exposure to music, they've grown up listening to Lalgudi Sir, who has always been and will be a God figure to them, inspiring them endlessly. As young children in 2010, they've been immensely blessed to have had Lalgudi Sir himself teach them many of his varnams and thillanas. Thereafter, they've been learning compositions of Lalgudi Sir from Sri. GJR Krishnan and Smt. Vijayalakshmi.
Kruthi and Keerthana cherish the memories they've made with Lalgudi Sir as little girls, and consider them to be the greatest blessings of their lives. Kruthi relives the memory of her first class with Lalgudi Sir. "Rageshri thillana was the first composition we learnt from Sir. I remember how happy he was when he smiled, and asked Mami to bring the Lalgudi creations book, which he graciously autographed and handed to me saying, "You are grasping so well. You can learn a lot by yourself from my handwritten notations here." He was 80 then. His blessings for me that day, and his encouraging words continue to inspire my confidence, and guide me through my growth and development as a musician."
The sisters in their tribute, will be presenting a varnam in Atana, rAmanai raghunAthanai, which was composed by Lalgudi Sir much later, after the Lalgudi Creations came out. This varnam has been composed on Sri Rama, and captures the entire essence of Atana in it.
