Seals and eagles and the sheer beauty of Alaska made the excursion a good value. Sorry about "da bears" but now you have a reason to return. I did a bike riding excursion in Juneau, went to the Mendenhall Glacier, and we saw several bears in the park. It was a bonus on that trip. The Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan is a lot of fun and laughter is guaranteed. I bet you were getting your steps in!

Next time you go to Ketchikan, book a tour on the Alleutian Ballad. Best boat tour ever. They are somewhere else this summer because cruising had been cancelled, but they will be back next year. You know it's a good tour when EVERYONE wants a photo with the crew at the end. Crew members must have a minimum of 2 years experience fishing in the Bering Sea to qualify.

Tony, your excitement at seeing a seaplane take off, the mountains, and the possibility of seeing wildlife, opens my eyes to how great I have it living in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle). We have mountains outside our window, we have a seaplane airline that runs regular flights out of Lake Union, and if you go east to the edge of our neighborhoods they have regular "problems" with Bear, Deer, and Coyote intrusion (it's US that have intruded on their space). I guess I should go spend some time in Florida where I'm surrounded by the ocean on either side at near sea level, enjoy the humidity, and hope I get to see a hurricane now and then. Oh yeah, but it rains up here all the time - remember that, please. ;)

I'm midway into watching the video (and not reading any spoiler comments yet) so not sure if Tony & Don did get to see any bear but love Tony's excitement at everything Nature is showing him in Alaska. We used to live in Oregon and used to go fishing/camping on Mt. Hood. The closest we got to see a bear was a mother brown bear and her two cubs upstream about 20 yards from us. We were a little nervous esp keeping our 4 year old son quiet (he was super excited to see a bear not confined in a zoo). Now back to watching the rest of the video :)
