This is an important movie (and book) for adults to understand how important we are in raising children to understand the nature of love and how if we don’t protect our own children by loving and caring for them they will look elsewhere and not always to their own safety and well being.

This story broke my heart. It's a growing up experience to lose someone who you love at any age. This IS NOT a salacious Lolita Story as the "Click Bate" sub title would imply. It's not uncommon for a love story to be about mis-matched characters IE: A boy and his dog, a girl and her horse or Wendy and Peter Pan. One line spoken by Oona in the script makes it clear, she is not a 5 year old child who needs a bath. To think one becomes a sensual being magically at age 18 is naive. This is not film about impropriety. It is about the meaning of being human. As a member of the entertainment industry, this is an Award worthy production for everyone who was a part of the project. It was brilliantly directed by Ross Partridge and Oona Laurence gave a flawless performance. The chemistry between Oona and Ross is what made this film work so well.

No it's not a Lolita story. The book (from which came this film) was written by a lady who had not been abducted or abused. Find some interviews she gave about the story and characters before you comment. It is not a story you can unravel in any definitive way as we will all see something different. I have to say though that I think Oona Lawrence gives an amazing performance as the young girl.

It's a very fine line between predatory behavior and caring. Be aware that there is always some kind of manipulation involved in relationships between humans. It's absolutely inappropriate for some adult taking a kid without the consent of the kid's family, no matter what nature the adult's intention is! Clearly here is grooming involved. It doesn't matter whether he forced himself on the girl or not. It's simply not okay!

This is a movie about a narcissistic man kidnapping a young girl(who displays symptoms of Reactive Attachment Disorder) and then covertly abuses her, physically/mentally/emotionally inducing Stockholm Syndrome. They are not just 2 "lonely people". This is an adult who has all the power, literally driving the SUV and a child who is helpless, doesn't even have a phone. They're NOT 50/50 "partners" in this, one is a deranged criminal and the other is a vulnerable child.

It's a strange movie. However, he behaved nicely with the little girl. He didn't do anything to hurt her, as some write in the comments, that it was something of a sexual nature. It's strange his way of behaving, of talking to the little girl, like like she's a grown woman and not an 11-year-old. What love can this be? At the end of the movie he declares this to her, but what he says to the girl is exactly what he says to himself. The words he says to the girl, the way they are said, seems like brainwashing and yet isn't it? What is this actually? He induces the girl that there is a huge love between them and it is normal that this girl will be marked for the rest of her life, because she is not allowed to think if it is as this man says, who can be the father or uncle of this girl. Why can something like this happen to a child like this? Notice how her family ignores her, her parents are not emotionally or physically present in her life, for them it is as if their little girl does not exist. Maybe not even they noticed her missing from home for a week, just like her friends didn't worry when the man took her in the car. It's not normal. It's sad to have a child and not care about it , to leave him alone, not to care if he goes to school, what kind of environment he has, what does he do as long as he is alone? This child will be a lonely child and exposed to the dangers of people who can hurt him.

@leonardobaigorria633611 ай бұрын

Deleted scenes from the movie: When he finally writes the will, he will have to kill himself or risk having the paperwork people read what he wrote. They will research who this female name belongs to see if she qualifies to receive the house at an early age. All her life she will have a free house that will be haunted by a man that she thought was a father figure, when really, anyone who finds out who he really was will tell her that he had a fetish for talking to small children. There are no winners here. Both lose. Even the audience loses, gaining a dark perspective of the possibilities that are out there in the world. And to think that almost nothing gets done to fix these problems. This film at least shines light on that. This world needs fixing.

I actually read the book 7 years ago and stumbled upon the movie just know. I found the book just as gripping and intriguing as the movie. Both leave you completely hooked up with an open ending, which is not unsatisfying at all...

this movie made me sick to my stomach, i was sure he would end up killing her, but he let her go, but she was marked for life, a hard lesson.

Don't think you quite understood the film tbh. Why did you ever think he was going to kill her? He was litterally the only decent person in her life. She is marked for life. he hopes in a positive way though hence his whole speech at the end about her remembering their time together because it will save her at the end

Hmmmm.... I'm not sure how I feel about this film. It's pedophilia tinted, yet it's not quite. It's disturbing. Check out the 1985 film Lamb with Liam Neeson. It ends differently. I think this one is another interpretation. Weirdly though, I never felt the sexual menace in the 1985, contrary to this one.

Porque, aos poucos, o sistema está te convencendo, inclusive através deste filme, que uma relação "amorosa" entre um adulto e uma criança é normal.

@jiggle9216 I wish more people realized that. Old people are resentful when people think they aren't capable anymore just because of their age, they don't want to be judged by it, but young people are not given the same respect. People want to think anyone under 18 or 21 is helpless in a relationship. They expect them to work and drive cars and obey the law, but when it comes to relationships they are thought of as infants.

My great uncle who ended up marrying my grandmother after my grandfather (his brother) ran out on the family. I don't know the back story as to why my grandfather ran out on the family but my great uncle was a pedophile. He went to prison for a year for taking an underage teen over state lines. I think she remained his side chick for 30 years. After 20 years of marriage to my grandmother they got divorced and he married that same woman who he took over state lines when she was an underage teen.
@serenatwilite40053 ай бұрын
I think the movie "Sweet Hostage" was pretty different. He was holding her hostage and carrying a gun if I recall correctly. He was threatening with her, he wasn't telling her she could go home all the time.

unusual, to say the least!...i'm 30 minutes in and have not seen anything to indicate he's a 'sicko'...some poor judgement calls, tobesure, but he's experiencing a life crisis, and we can make poor judgement calls when our world has been shaken...hmm, then he calls her a "delectable pizza" when they're going to bed...something's amiss! a little cringy at this point!...kinda painful to watch 42:00...

Funny how the film shows that he has a smoking hot girlfriend at work, so it can try to smoke screen that he isn't a closet pedo. It was actually a pretty pathetic lame attempt. People will think "He's with a hot woman, no way can he be a creep". This film walks a razor's edge, but I'll remind the friendly commentators here that there was an inappropriate, telling scene when he's banging his girlfriend, knowing full well that the child is watching. If that doesn't creep out anyone, then there's something wrong with you all.
