As an OG Hornets fan, its good to see someone as fun as LaMelo playing. The interesting thing I notice is how he uses the rule book to his advantage. In today's NBA, they have the rule allowing an extra 'gather step' once a player picks up the ball from his dribble. Before the 2010s, those 'gather steps' would be considered travels. However, that extra first step taken before the last two steps a player takes to shoot the basketball after picking up his dribble is now legal, so intelligent and creative players like James Harden and Stephen Curry have used it creatively to create sufficient space to get a shot off. LaMelo is doing exactly that, using the rulebook to his advantage to get shots off in a disorganized, yet creative way we have never seen before.
