Why do you feel the need to go "Actually, the Lamenters aren't the good guys, because they kill these other people, so you're wrong." Of course they're not the "good guys" in relation to forces like Chaos or the Orks or Tyranids. It's literally impossible to be a "good guy" to every one of the groups, so typing that up on your keyboard just makes you look like an ass. From a human point of view, the Lamenters are more heroic than some of the founding Legions. You'll never catch Iron Hands or Dark Angels going out of their way to protect civilians, but the Lamenters do. So yes, they are some of the few good guys in the grimdark.

There is a very much above zero chance the Eldar would allow a world of BILLIONS to be slaughtered so that one of their kind won't stub their toe. This is one of the stronger Xeno races. Yes most Xeno's in setting are very much horrible.

Where this song is wrong is that the Lamenters doesn't fight for the imperium or for the Emperor, they fight for all human beings in the galaxy, to protect them from the dangers of endless wars. They do not like killing xenos like members of the death watch do, they do not hunt anyone not fanatically religious about the emperor like the inquisition does, they do not wish to destroy renegade space marines, especially when they can understand their rebellion and can't forget they were first and foremost friends and allies, unlike the Space Wolves for example. So yes, the Lamenters are the good guys of the 40k universe, defending the weak, showing basic empathy, love and care for their friends, protecting at the cost of their lives if necessary the very core of the what once made the Imperium, in the time of the Emperor was fully alive: its humanity.
