I get the question a lot: What cars did you have as a kid?
Well I am not particularly nostalgic, and almost all the cars I had as a kid are gone, or buried deep some forgotten toy bins in my parents garage.
But I do remember some, and I have created a small collection of some of my favorites, and it is time to share.
This weekend (Feb 29 thru March 1), the Whatnot app is going retro, celebrating nostalgic collectibles with its Whatnot Rewind shows. I thought this was a great time to join in, so watch the showcase and then join my on Whatnot March 2nd at 9am PT for the Show, where many of these will be available via giveaway and auction. You’ll decide which to give away and which to sell.
Follow this link if you haven’t joined Whatnot for $15 credit on your first purchase:

For many people, this hobby called Diecast collecting is life long. Thanks for sharing this info. For me, the old 1960 matchbox castings with the thin plastic wheels and thick steel axles where bullet proof. The old original land rover with the removable luggage was a favorite. It fuelled my love of cars from around the world. I still keeps going on. This goes for many others as well.

@twiinturbosprvsn5922 for I have reached it end of sorts. Covered all the areas I like. As the end, that up to each person to decide when there to.e is up. Not others. So why judge other's for their interests regardless of what it is. If you are doing a hobby that no longer interests you, get out with grace rather than judge others for interests. I still enjoy it, and that is that for me.

I grew up in France, so most of my childhood models were Majorette. But the only one that I can still vividly remember to this day, some 40 years later, was the yellow Ford Mustang Boss in yellow from Matchbox. What a car!

I was also a matchbox kid. There is a hobby store in my hometown that didn’t sell hot wheels but they had a display case full of matchbox in the boxes not carded. So that’s what I had and remember as a kid this was late 70’s early 80’s.

Yep, same here. 1973, I was 3yrs old & my Mum bought them for me every week. Roughly 15pence each (£0.15) and they often had the skinny thin wheels & opening parts, like doors/boots/bonnets....

Can’t get enough of you showing these. Just brings back so many memories, and we had a similar collecting experience. Sounds like you are 4 years older than me. I remember that blue Porsche, and it’s possible my older brother had it. The Testarossa was my first Diecast car that I truly had to have and remember exactly where I got it. It was in a local hobby store behind a glass case with other cars. I’ll always remember going up to the counter and calling out the number, and then them giving me that awesome box. Getting Matchbox cars in the box was definitely more exciting. It was something about that box! And I’m with you. I had both Hot Wheels and Matchbox as a kid, but I gravitated towards the realism of the Matchbox cars. Especially when they started doing the 8 dot wheels! Those wheels IMO were better than anything Hot wheels was doing at the time. I still have my Testarossa and F40 from when I was a kid. The Testarossa is pretty much in perfect condition. F40 has some nicks but not too bad. I also kept a Mercedes 300E with opening doors. Very similar looking to the silver 600E? you have. Other than that I have a few Hot Wheels I kept as well. Then I have some Matchbox Premiere cars. Definitely get your hands on the 1969 Camaro from Premiere. I have the green one and I’m looking at it right now. It’s awesome! Anyway, this is a long comment but looking forward to seeing what you add to your collection. You will probably be leading me down a rabbit hole myself. Haha. Oh and I had the 959 but it was dark charcoal with red accents. No 8 dots. Love the one you have and now I must have it. I do recognize it and probably one of my friends had it. Ok I’m done. This is awesome! Thank you for bringing back memories!

I’m tearing up as you have brought back my childhood memories of my Diecast Cars. My Parents bought me Cars Bikes Skateboards Scooters and even a Mini Bike But my Favourite was a Train Track with Stations Parks People Animals Cars Spare Trains Parking Stations Shops etc even Smoke coming from the Train Engines and then one day I came home to play with my Trains it was Gone. The whole Train Set was set up on a Board that took up the entire Lounge Room. I guess Mum and Dad wanted the Lounge Room back . I see one at The Victoria Building in Sydney at the Model Shop and it was going to be my Future Employment A Train Driver. My Great Grandfather a Train Driver in Ireland My Grandfather a Tram Driver in Sydney My Father a Mechanic in Sydney Me Useless and Miserable all my Life Because of my Disappearing Train Set. It was the Diorama of a Train Station and Adjoining Building Transport Parks Shops People and Transport. Have not being able to Forget But I still have my Diecast Cars of the 60s and 70s so I am thankful. Thank You of your Childhood Memories and Matchbox and I hope your Children will have fond memories too especially with your Collection Today. I have to go and get some more Tissues. 🙏☮️💟🔥🇦🇺

Cool video 😎 I have always liked 8-dot wheels too. My favourite Matchbox cars I had back then and have purchased again were Dodge Daytona In burgundy/silver and Ford Thunderbird Turbo In red, really sweet models. Other one my favourite toy-cars was Corgi Juniors Dodge Magnum (1970's model) In yellow, have bought that too again 😄

Such a throwback. I miss seeing the display in the variety stores. Had hundreds of them. Rollamatics, the tank with the gun that moved with the wheels artillery piece that fired and the F-14 plane with sweeping wings.

John, in the 1980s and early 1990s Matchbox issued paper catalogues with pictures of the models and showing the new releases. It's a good way to understand what's out there! These catalogues aren't expensive.

Gosh! Few if any of the cars I'd "collected" as a kid survived my childhood. They were played with. Shot off ramps, paint-chipped or (painfully) trodden on. 🙁 But yes, I can attest that my introduction to 1/64 diecast was definitely Matchbox. I'd only delved into the world of Hot Wheels once I'd turned 10. I'll admit, that as a child, my interest leaned towards super cars or fantasy castings with a sci-fi bent - Probably the result of a general interest in "things from the future" or things offbeat and cool. These days, it's primarily about realism (or near-realism in the case of unlicensed models). Good to see Matchbox regaining its popularity in the last few years. I love Hot Wheels, Tomica and Majorette, but Matchbox was where the interest started for me.

I had no stores close to where I live, I would go to the drug store and buy Matchbox when they came with the boxes. I still have them without boxes because I played with them all. I would get Hot Wheels when we would go to Ames and other big department stores. The Superfast just rolled better, I don't recall ever seeing the blue 928, there were many colors, I think mine was gold, green or that could've been the 911, hard to remember and they are packed away.

I had a good amount of Matchbox cars from the early to mid 2000s! That was my childhood right there! Unfortunately, my dad either threw them in the trash or gave them away to the Salvation Army. Either way, I still have some 2000s Matchbox cars. I do collect select Matchbox cars that are appealing to me. Especially when Matchbox releases emergency vehicles!

I do remember so many of my Matchboxes from the early to late 90's , and how much like you said, Matchbox used to appeal more to me because they were based on real cars... i still very fondly remember a Police Vauxhall Astra/Opel Kadett i used to have and take it with me everywhere as a kid

Do you remember the 1984 dodge Daytona? With an opening hood. Suspension. Maroon and silver tone. And it had the eight dots. I believe the eight dots came out for that vehicle. Correct? Because a closely matched the factory wheels on the Daytona at the time. That has been my all-time favorite matchbox car. And I still own it today. In perfect condition, out of the box. I wish greenlight and auto world could put suspension on their models. Love your channel. Huge fan here in Miami Florida.

8:57 little bit of interesting information. Friend of mine works in a private garage here in the UK & every so often, one of the garage regulars brings his genuine real Ferrari F40 to be worked on by him. The customer & he often talk about collecting diecast models and the F40 owner says that of all the Ferrari diecasts he owns of his car, they are both agreed that in this scale (roughly 1/50-1/64), this Matchbox is the closest & most accurately produced version. Hot Wheels's model is woeful by comparison, too rounded and was obviously made narrow to fit on the orange track.... I have around 4 or 5 of them and only one is in pristine condition. The others I will get nice OZ realriders for & produce some custom made refurbished models of the F40
