Hello Simcha, I can't wait to see everything your getting in New and how your going to set it up now. It's been a little while since I've seen you make a new video j was really excited to see this 1 pop up in my cells notifications soon as you uploaded it. I like how you put your tubes n rods in the pvc tubes/pipes. Where is a good place to find items cheapest to get started blow glass? I've been even looking used but some ppl want as much used as brand new some ppl are weird. How much does it cost to start a set up? I can't wait to see you pumping out more videos. I see you made a nice little bong that looked pretty cool looking or started it. I'm glad to see your making improvements in your shop. Thanks for sharing with us. Always love from Upstate Ny to you and your family my friend.

Thanks Eric! Yeah I haven't uploaded much lately. My glass teacher is in the hospital with Covid and he's not doing good so I've been bummed out about that. Your biggest expense is going to be your torch. You should get the best torch for your budget. Sometimes you can find good deals on Craigslist or Ebay. I bought my kiln off of Craigslist and saved a few hundred dollars on it. Thanks for the comments and much love from Central NJ!

@@FusingShop I'm sorry to hear that about your teacher 😔. I just found out yesterday my biological father has covid as well and he never got the vaccine and apparently he's not in good shape at all either. And his wife is a head nurse at Albany med telling me this. She said she's never seen him like this before and he's not himself. I've been going through my own problems. As you know I caught covid and was sick for weeks. Then started to be back to my normal self and the night before into Thanksgiving I went to the ER. I've been having problems in my heart/chest /stomach. My heart flottered n then started beating out of my chest and got all black as I started to black out. I went to the er 3 more times since then. Still no answers so I've been scared and have had extremely bad anxiety now. I'm glad that your in good heath though. And make making videos will help you temporarily take your mind off things as your videos of done for me through my hard times. Always love from Upstate ny my friend.

Great video, I’m glad you included ventilation. I think your ventilation may be severely undersized though. A lot of fumes are likely still getting up in your shop without having a hood to trap them.

Hey looking at finally getting my own set up and I’m trynna make some space in the garage but i live in Florida and the garage doesn’t have ac atm. Is it safe to have my propane and oxygen in the garage during the hot summer months?
@michaelcolton95305 ай бұрын
Just wondering if the temps are high enough to be dangerous and if i should look into a way of cooling the garage down even when I’m not working so things are safe.
@FusingShop5 ай бұрын
Hi Michael! Thanks for commenting. My shop is in Central NJ and it gets pretty hot here in the summer. I cannot answer your question with 100% certainty. What I can tell you is that I don't have an AC in my shop either and I've never had a problem. All of my equipment is out of direct sunlight which makes a difference. I also have blackout curtains on the windows which helps keep the heat down. TBH the shop gets so hot between the kiln and the torches running that I couldn't see a point in getting AC for my shop. Again all of this is just my opinion and what I've been doing. Hope it's helpful! Sim

Hello, I was curious as to what your table is made out of? I have also been looking for a video on how to use a kiln. How do you know what temperatures and times to use for different kinds of glass? Thanks
@FusingShop2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amanda! I bought some tables from Ikea and have a layer of Duroc on them. The Duroc is fireproof so if hot glass falls on it, you know it won't catch on fire. I only know the annealing cycle for borosilicate. For every quarter inch of glass you need to anneal for one hour. If your piece has a half-inch thickness, you anneal for two hours and then keep it at the straining point for two hours. Boro is annealed at 1,050 F and strain point is 950 or 960 depending on who you ask ;).

Can i ask how much did your lathe cost, and also where did you get it? Thanks a lot!
@FusingShop2 жыл бұрын
I bought it off another glassblower. It's a Litton F Series and cost me $8,000 used. Glass lathes are not easy to come by, but sometimes you can find a real gem. There are import lathes that some people are getting but I don't know how well they work. You can Google Seam Glass Lathe and check it out.

Hey, love the videos. You make a lot of stuff that I would want to make. I am brand new to glass art and trying to learn as much as possible before buying everything to get started teaching myself (I live a few hours from any classes). Is there any videos you have about annealing and picking equipment to anneal. Also I'm planning to use a open garage instead of starting with ventilation system. Would you expect this to be ok with one torch and kiln weather permitting. Thank you for the time you put into teaching.
@FusingShop2 жыл бұрын
Hey James! Thanks for your comment and my apologies for the late reply. You definitely need a ventilation hood or fan by you when working with glass, especially if you plan on working with fume. Your kiln doesn't need to be vented but your torch area needs good ventilation. I can definitely make a video on annealing if that's helpful for you. You need a glass kiln such as a Paragon, Skuit, or Jenway. You can find them here: www.mountainglass.com/tools-and-equipment/kilns-parts-and-accessories/kilns

Just one question, what do you put pieces on when hot to avoid cracking?
@FusingShop6 ай бұрын
Hey Ken! Great question. It depends on the piece and how big it is. Some pieces need to be kept in the kiln to stay warm, some can be bench cooled. I have a block of wood 2x6 with holes drilled in it to keep my blanks upright. For smaller pieces I use a rod rest. Hope this helps! All the best!! Sim
