What It Looks Like
Lamu Fort is a big, tough-looking building made from coral stone and mangrove timber, materials common in Swahili architecture. The central courtyard was used for all sorts of activities, and the two-story structure around it had rooms for offices and soldiers.

These days, Lamu Fort isn’t used for military purposes anymore. Instead, it’s been turned into a museum and cultural center. Quite interesting! A fun tour and educational besides! Your suggestion of turning the fortress into a club sounded like a good idea. But as your guide mentioned, religion pretty much dictates what does and does not happen in Lamu. I guess you’ll just have to book a flight to Phuket, Thailand if you want that party atmosphere.
