Lana del Rey's exploration of hip hop isn't considered cultural appropriation in the same way that katy Perry and Miley Cyrus were because she is not trying to use black culture or black ppl as props or as an "edgy" fad. She generally enjoys their sound and doesn't compromise changing her own sound to cater to a certain demographic, but instead blends the two and result is great. Love lana

I'm a big rap listener and I really think Lana got some hip hop vibes . She sings like many rappers ram, I mean by her flow's rythm and Melody. For example the beginning from 'Videogames' really show a rapper flow with the 'swinnin in the backyard / pull up in ur fastcar' so she's already kind of in hip hop culture

What a mystifying woman. An essence of Marilyn and Ava float through her a bit in this interview. She seems uncomfortable but still oozes kindness and friendliness. There is a glow in her eyes that takes you back to a time of class but still an edginess of modern identity with her current style and attitude. She's a vintage Coney Island queen, but a modern day beauty.

jake Leroy Even crazier, she mentioned in a different interview: "I don't want to have to keep doing this, but I am," she told the paper. And by "this," she said she meant "everything." "That's just how I feel," she said. "If it wasn't that way, then I wouldn't say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but. . . " The rest of the sentence did not make it into print. 😔♥️

There was a quote in it, I think it's ( Oh what treachery is it to believe that a person is more than a person.) Still there are people that astound you! Not necessarily her, but there are, if they don't exist in your life, that's a sad life my friend! Just my opinion ok, I hope we don't have a keyboard fuckin war ok, I won't respond. Who are you singing about in 'birds of a feather'? 4. do you write your poetry in one go or does it change as you record the song? 5. your fans are obsessed with Lizzy Grant material, do you think you will ever release a b-sides album? 6. do you have any songs about Chuck? 7. who taught you to whistle? Who do you think about when you whistle in 'white mustang'? 8. Have you ever had a ayahuasca trip? 9. what is the most romantic song you have ever heard? 10. Do you watch horror movies? 11. what kind of coffee do you drink? 12. Do you stay up at night or wake up early in the morning? 13. Was New York City a hard place to be sober? 14. is god important to your music? 15. Do you hear a beat first and then sing or do you sing and then plug in the beat? 16. What was it like talking to Claire Boucher? Do you listen to Halfaxa or her earlier work? 17. are you annoyed that interviewers ask you sexist questions about men and songs that came out five years ago? 18. Does it bother you that nobody asks men questions about their persona or the 'bitches' and 'pussy' in their lyrics? 19. In "get free" you say "for...and for..." you edited out their names, any hints as to who they are?

Even with Billboard of Women event, Lana was awarded and they were playing Video games despite releasing two albums after BTD.

harry spivler He followed by saying "chart wise". He was referring to the song's popularity in regards to its placement on the Top 40 and in streaming numbers, not critical acclaim recieved, or what particular song propelled her rise to fame. Don't see why you guys are so critical of him. He's just doing his job, what do you want him to say? This interview is awkward because of Lana's persistent vagueness coupled by her uninterested demeanor, nothing else.

she doesn't want to be questioned, she wants to be adored. it's a serious problem when it comes to attempting to make a politically relevant album. she's targeting naive fans who will mindlessly "like" whatever she puts out. on closer inspection, she's dismissed all difficult questions in order to stay "likeable" // it's a very dangerous thing for an artist to do; she'll take out anyone who opposes her at this point

I'm a HUGE Lana fan and was thinking the same thing. I'm almost worried for her watching this interview, but I think her nervous disposition is just the fact that he's not lapping it up all googly-eyed. there are different levels of being a puppet. some are more explicit than others, in lana's case its more lowkey... lfl has been hugely advertised, everywhere all the time, she's being sold like a product now, not as much for the music as it used to be 3/4 yrs ago in the "beginning". shes also going much much more mainstream now, everyone knows her and talks about her, shes in the cover of many magazines and stuff, releasing songs with some of the current greatest mainstream singers like the weeknd & a$ap and sean ono lennon playboi carti and stevie nicks... like wtf she just suddenly has like 84793478753 feats in an album...? like SUDDENLY like that. she never had before nor had any interest, as previously admitted by her

Being a Black woman I do have a problem with cultural appropriation, but I see it as someone using others style to gain a profit. That's why I don't like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus anymore. Hip-hop was never true to who they were. They just used the sound, and features of artist to get more views and money. I FUCKING HATE THAT SHIT. Lana is not that. Like she said she's about the music. We all know when it comes to her music she does what she likes, she doesn't ride waves or just do what's cool (reason why she felt indifferent about summertime sadness remix). I respect that she mixes in different sounds, because she not being fake about it. It's very genuine, she's just herself and that translates into her art. She said she wanted to make music with her friends. Katy Perry isn't friends with the migos, I'd bet big money on that. Lana is very honest with her sounds, leave her be.

Theres a difference between sharing and taking and pretending its the product of your own culture. Cultural appropriation is a concept that attempts to address power imbalances between different ethnicities - granted, sometimes it is taken too far but in most cases I think its fair. Rock music is a great example of cultural appropriation - its an art form that originated in African American communities and was essentially taken by white people and expressed as though it was their own invention.

Keep in mind that rock is a river composed of many streams, as Alan Freed put it. Some of those streams are "whiter", such as country, folk, and pre-rock pop. This diversity, of course, is a good thing.

@@GaiusSempriniousGracchus how do you show that it is not cultural appropriation??)) statement before the music starts? No you just create a song in a style you like and if the song goes viral and people say you are a staple in certain genre you just become the symbol of that genre.
