Lancaster NO. 40 blacksmith blower repair, PT 1

I love old tools that have a story. This blower has been with me since I was 13. I'm happy to be refurbishing it so it can be used again. it's been frozen for years and I can't figure out what is causing it. let's see what is going on and get this blower disassemble and repaired.

Nice blower! My in-laws still have the old forge, built in place in the old shop, well over 100 years old. Building is coming down around it.. had a little bigger blower than yours, on a cast stand. It's just surface rust, still free to move. It's not in the old shop anymore. It's in a safer place now.. Brass handle, won't need bushings.. 👍😁

I have the forge as well but it's got a crack in the pot. I need to try to weld it up, but I've only welded cast iron one other time.

@@firehousecustomfab3286 preheat a little.. mig and lots of peening!!! Keep some heat on it so it cools slow.. In-laws family's old forge is pretty big, wood framed, metal and brick lined, 4'x4' outside and a foot deep. Was setup with the air duct underneath..

Ha! I was just thinking about doing a video on my uncle's old forge I restored 5 years ago. It has the Champion blower which is smooth as glass now. I has the weirdest Tuyere I have ever seen. Your Landcaster is sweet!

Thank you for this video!! This is exactly what I needed! I just got one of these and am really excited to get it running! It’s rusted up but turns pretty well. It feels like it could use some lubricant, as it doesn’t keep spinning like I’ve seen them doing elsewhere. Is that normal for this model? Or is there something I’m missing? Thanks again for the video, and don’t stress about the camera work! At least you’re putting out helpful information!!

The free spinning is normal, they will start to get stiff if they sit without lubricant. Mine was stored without oil in it and it got water in it at some point. That caused it to seize up some. I now store it with a lubricant in the blower housing, when it's not in use. Thank you for watching and communicating with me. I really appreciate it. Have a blessed day!

WOW, I was the first one to work with Jay, but as he would say I discovered women and left him high and dry. He made me a forge, unfortunately I loaned it out and never seen it again. I still have the anvil he made for me from RR track.

I'm so glad I still have the forge, anvil and post vise I got from him. I also still have one of his catalogs of things he made. I learned so much from him, a lot good and some a little mischievous 😁. I was blessed to have met him.
