i think its funny how people like to undermine his work solely bc of his looks, as if thats not the case for every single other actor in hollywood lol. like yeah of course it helps them land certain roles, but in the end their performance in the movie is what really matters, and things like an oscar nomination for a movie he filmed at 19 really show you the great actor he actually is.
@wildcrocus3 жыл бұрын
Pretty actors are often put in a box. Case in point, Johnny Depp, a natural character actor everyone wanted to do leading man roles. He had to work darn hard and attach himself to Tim Burton to pursue the quirky roles he wanted. Working with Denis Villeneuve and Wes Anderson are great steps in Timothee proving can't be put in one box. And yes, it did take Leo a lot of years and a lot of support from Martin Scorcese to come back from the expectations Titanic created. He already had Gilbert Grape on the books and they still wanted to write him of as a talentless pretty boy.
@esverker70183 жыл бұрын
The young male actors that get attacked for being "just a pretty face" all have one thing in common: their faces are massively popular with young women (including Leo in his time). Like you said, every actor gets a foothold through their looks. But anything that teen girls like has people scrambling to declare it Officially Bad.
@sevenofnine22333 жыл бұрын
he is an extremely bad actor. brad pitt is a good looking guy too and no one undermines his work because he actually has a lot of acting talent. this kid has not. it is non-explainable to me me why is getting all of these roles. i actually left cinema 2 times because he was so so so bad i couldn't even finish the movie. i'm sick of little teenagers in love with this guy looks and because of that claiming that he is a great actor. he is not.

It certainly helped that he started very early, demonstrated talent and had the look. Connections arrived through that and his school, and possibly family friends. He has the perfect 'coming of age' look for this era. What's interesting is how many of the classic young male lead roles he's getting that you'd usually see in more athletic looking actors - Michael B Jordan, Cavill, Chris Evans etc 5-10 years ago. Dev Patel in 'The Green Knight' is a recent example of how you'd historically see those roles cast, but Chalamet playing Henry V, for example, just looked odd.

Who among the old artists have done that? Or among his young contemporaries? NONE!

There’s no way an actor can go this far with just talent. He’s genuinely blessed by god or some high power (not to be religious lol) to have such an astronomical rise as he has. I can’t even imagine the amount of struggling actors out there. Timothee has come a very long way and he acts his ass off. I think he’s also lucky in the sense to look the way he does (handsome, white male in an industry where Hollywood doesn’t really embrace color actors) and he knows it. I think he’ll go very far indeed. Every project he does is more exciting than the last. Couldn’t initially stand him but have grown to really like him as an actor. Call Me By Your Name was fantastic work and still my personal favorite. He was pretty good in The King and Beautiful Boy. Don’t think he’s the best young actor working, but he’s definitely one of them! He has a long and amazing career ahead. Quite certain he’s been kissed by the angels. He’s only 25 and what a hell of a ride! Every young actor’s dream career 🔥

He was bred for an acting career since his days at LaGuardia HS

@Gary Revel Jr. I have to admit I’m jealous as well. This sounds ridiculous but I’ve been a struggling actor for a while now and I do at times (very foolishly) think in my lowest moments that the greatest aspirations I ever had in life are being lived by Timothee. I’m sorry to hear about your poor experiences. I hope you are still acting in your native country and doing brilliantly for yourself. It’s all a game of luck, I suppose. And connections. Timothee is living every struggling actor’s dream. I can’t even imagine. They say 10,000+ wannabes in LA and over the US, some extraordinarily talented and some just fame hungry who don’t even care about being a part of great cinema or theatre. It’s one of those great mysteries of life that this right place right time thing is.

People born in New York have a leg up in learning the acting craft from great teachers and the eclectic atmosphere that exists there. Of course one has to have the want too and the earnestness and honesty to put forth the hard work required. As one who acted in small plays in the Dallas area in the not too distant past. Standing up, realizing an audience or other actors and directors are watching and inevitably critiquing your performance not only requires nerves at the very least. But the wherewithal to bring out the character you're portraying in a believable commanding performance. I failed eventually. I so respect these people these talented ❤ people that possess their characters on Stage and Screen so magically, but more importantly through the hard work put into this tough craft that the emotion of a moment captured by these professionals reaches out into the audience and grips you and can move one to tears, to fear, to sheer astonishment as if it's reality ❤ brought to life. Watching this young man grow and develop over the years should be quite a trip. Brando, even in so-so films managed 👌 to maintain that dynamic hold he held over all who watched his films. 👋 I'm commenting on this interesting narrative of this young man because after failing at acting I succeeded driving tractor trailers all over our country mostly for FEDEX. And the other day I had someone comment to me about how hard it is keeping to these schedules. Then he said I wish I was an actor then I'd be on the laid back gravy train. So as you can imagine I proceeded to tell him how wrong he is about that industry. There's a reason why the top of the mountain isn't overpopulated in the acting industry. Movies and the Stage. Time at the top can be fleeting for most. But the greats maintain excellence over long periods. It truly is an exhausting industry but one that touches the ❤ heart of mankind like no other.

The king isn't intentionally historically inaccurate. It's based off a work by Shakespeare

Ppl say his performance in Dune was very bland like he lacked any emotion without realising his role is a cold calculated character

As a fan, I admit I was unenthused when I first learned he'd be taking on the character of Paul for that very reason. I guess I felt he deserved, especially for his first major role in a blockbuster, a role that allowed him to fully utilize/show off his strengths- subtlety, expressiveness, physicality, intelligence- as an actor. He's utterly hypnotic when he gets to flex all those strengths. His trademark subtlety can tend to get 'lost' in the glitziness of a made-for-big screen film like Dune. But on further thought, anyone as serious about their craft as Timothee clearly is, will be willing to take on a variety of roles in films big or small- to grow and hone their abilities. He's taken (what I think to be) a pretty big risk by taking on this type of role for such a large audience to see, and hopefully both his most enthusiastic fans and loudest detractors will be willing to give him a chance to blossom without heaping on expectations of grandeur or failure.

@@Alittleb1tterI think he takes those criticisms with a grain of salt. In one interview, he said that he doesn’t read reviews of his movies because he respects whatever comments are given. What’s important to him is that the viewers react on his role - negative or positive it maybe - since most of his movies dig into the feelings of viewers.

he lived in the Bronx; that pretty boy has balls granted and concurs isn’t as rough as it used to be but he didn't know that.

He's a new yorker, we're not afraid of ANY area in NYC. I've lived in the Bronx and have seen rough parts of the city my entire life, the most I ever felt threatened was in East New York but that's it. We've seen it all. Been there, done that. Haha.

@@LanceTheEditorSame here. If you’re in NYC you have to be ALWAYS aware of your surrounding, doesn’t matter if it’s 5th, Mad Avs, “high end” areas, people you meet - nicely dressed or smelly, tattered ones, the smells, the sounds, the brassy, suspicious yet helpful, kind, what you see is what get attitudes. You developed that easily-get-attuned to behavior. All that helps Timothée become how he is as an actor.

I foresee great things for Timothée. He has a Marlon Brando-like quality that I hope will be nurtured as he matures.

In my very unpopular opinion, I was not that impressed by his performance in Call Me by Your Name. Yes, of course he was nominated for an Oscar and his performance was very natural, but for me he was more noticed for his beautiful appearance than for his acting. I felt the same way about Lady Bird, Little Women, Hot Summer Nights, King and Rainy Day in New York. But it was only with Dune and Beautiful Boy that I was finally impressed by his acting. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with his acting skills in the sequel to Dune. I know I'm sounding very pompous, but I'm rooting for his career.

Shame about 'A Rainy Day in New York'. Was the film never released then? If that was the case, then I guess that Woody Allan must have lost a huge amount of money with it as the film was completed, but was pulled and not distributed, so I guess the public haven't been able to see it - shame that. What a huge waste of money if that was the case. Must have cost Woody Allan millions of dollars in the end.

The film to my knowledge was only released in foreign markets theatrically but is available on demand in the US.
@showmoke3 жыл бұрын
@@LanceTheEditor - ah ok thanks. Should have checked before I suppose, but it's available here in the UK from Amazon on DVD. It may have been shown in the cinemas here in the UK, but I can't remember seeing it advertised at all, but maybe it was and I missed it. If it's available on DVD in the UK, then it's probably also available in other countries as well.
