Good research. Land Cruiser 300 is available in the US under Lexus LX 570 tag. LX is the upper end SUV of Lexus - the marquee luxurry brand of Toyota. I had sat in Land Cruiser a few years ago during Dubai Desert Safari. The experience was matchless. The car was so stable on the sand dunes (though they had deflated the tyres before embarking on sand dunes); it was hard to believe. The only grudge is that these cars are very expensive, even though they are so for a reason!

Loved the concept of old school SUV with solid axles front and rear, and bullet proof engines, just as in with the 70 series cruisers which first came with gigantic inline 6 petrol and diesel engines and currently a 4.5l diesel V8. It's a shame we never had them in India. I had been to Bangladesh which happens to be my native and I found a surplus of these.

Mahindra PikUP (Scorpio Getaway) is gaining traction in South Africa and Australia due to the 4 year wait on Land Cruiser. Also because the Mahindra comes at less than half the price of Toyota and is fairly reliable too.

The 300 series land cruiser was released back in 2021 and a lot of people have already received their units since then. Secondly this rumor of 4 year waiting period came out for the 300 series land cruiser not the 70 series land cruiser. Also you are forgetting that Mahindra has been bringing it's fleet of Mahindra getaways in South Africa and Australia, it's not that they have grabbed the fame recently. Their parts availability and service network is poor in other countries and that's they never sold really well. People buy the 70 series land cruiser for a completely different purpose, the likes of Mahindra pikup falls amongst the toyota hilux and isuzu dmax, and even then there are lots of better options. Reliability? that's questionable since I had to get the clutch of my 10 year old scorpio fixed for several times, the window switches stop working and the panels, they keep coming out. The door handles also come out loose. It's done only 60k kms

I understand that you had a bad experience with Scorpio, but I have worked on 2 lakhs + kms run Scorpio's and Bolero's and they were decently reliable. Primary reason any automaker changes the vehicle, other than looks is to comply with emissions norms or safety standards. These pick ups used by Afgans (or Aussies) because they don’t care about safety or emission norms. They need reliability. More electronics, sensors in vehicle is more prone to failures. So Ambassador, Mahindra Jeep(old type), Trekker etc survived for ages.
