There’s no school like Old School! I would get along with your mate. And his steering wheel is on the correct side as well!

That truck is awesome and equipped to handle any situation that may come, that's what you call prepared. 👍

What a superbly prepared truck and thoroughly decent owner. You just know its great to have guys like him on your side! I wish I could convince my wife the virtues of a FC101 but unfortunately my first Land Rover was a S11A ex RAF ambulance, via Gaydon Museum, Via Dunsfold Land Rovers and converted to pick up truck, in matt black and although it had the extended shackles (1 ton type) it unfortunately still had the heavy duty suspension so we got bashed about all over the place. No power steering, no power brakes, no synchromesh on 1st, 2nd & reverse, hi/lo beam via a button by your left foot. It was BY FAR the most demanding vehicle I've ever driven or ridden but was equally the most rewarding and I did more maintenance and mechanical work on that one truck than all my other cars and motorbikes put together! Probably the biggest regretful sale of all my vehicles!

Great interpretation of how a Land Rover is supposed to be used. The Laycorn storage box is a Genius idea that I believe is still used today? I noticed the Antenna pole on the outside which I have never seen used on a 101 in the position you have it, but that is the whole point? Each vehicle was fitted out to suit the user and each vehicle was different. The 101 I used in Germany had antenna bases screwed through the canvas roof onto plates riveted onto the frame. Sadly customising your vehicle is not allowed nowadays because it voids the warranty, would you believe? Well done, keep the video's coming.

6K would have been a heck of a deal. I would add tobacco in the tin with his tea sugsr n such. Often times tobacco is a tradeable item and great for starting conversations. His add ons are pretty good for sure.

That is a nice vehicle to have to store what you need in case of an emergency or for normal camping away from home. I saw some Russian vehicles which was rather modern and having similar setups and was still being used by their military.

What a great setup John has, everything you need to go on camping adventures rain or shine. I find that old military stuff very interesting:) IDK why, but I'm fascinated with UK history, I'm in Can. but I research it a lot. btw, I like John's accent, it's kinda like members of those old rock and punk bands, maybe from downtown London, like 'the ooh' XD. Cool vid. :D

I never got the chance to drive a FC back in the day, shame as I always thought they looked a good bit of kit.

I loved my GS 101 I paid £2500 fr it in the mid 90s and jus loved it it had no Noken winch and better turning circle than any normal landy Only reason 6 years later was fuel was a pain as 12 to the gallon was to Mutch so sold her , but a coversion to diesel would be the way forward , I hear you can’t get them for less than 20000 grand now , if lonely we knew , pinzgauers are they way to go these days as newer and better on fuel and off road they go anywhere pretty mutch , again pricy to buy 👍🙂

From New Zealand. I have concerns regarding that gas stove being used as a heater. People are found dead in their tents from using them as heaters here. They produce carbon monoxide. Go to sleep permanently.

It would be nice to have one, but I couldn't afford the maintenance. Here in the states, we can get used military vehicles for a reasonable price, again, it's the maintenance.

Great vid. I have a 101 FUT, but not as set up as your one for survival. Just a point. All 101’s were built by Land Rover as GS soft tops, but a few were rebodied by other companies as ambulances, radio comms and VAMPIRE . Btw is that gun a replica or just deactivated? 👍
