This is the only video I have watched and then thought 'this is amazing' I want to do the same. I have just completed my walk this October. Thanks Dave, for the inspiration.

This video helped to inspire me to walk Lejog in 2010, Jogle in 2014 and Lejog again in 2024 Cheers Dave 👍

@imsodave Thanks for replying - Its a pretty triumphant song. I enjoyed the fact that you had song of the day for each one of your blog entries too, and the song for each Steve show. I couldnt have done the Coast to Coast without my mp3 player. I ordered McCloy's lejog book today!

I was searching for walking vids before I embarked to do Wainwrights Coast to Coast path last year (200 miles), and I found your excellent videos, and your blog too. Thanks very much for getting me into Mercury Rev entirely as a consequence of this video. As I walked into Robin Hood's Bay at the end of my 200 mile trek, I made a point of playing Hercules on my MP3 player to signify my achievement. I'm gona do Lejog in 2012 hopefully too. Your blog was particularly inspiring and entertaining :)

I'm planning on walking form John O'Groats to Lands End from April 2014 so I can get the training in. Walking south should have the advantage of giving an illusion of walking down hill :-) Congratulations on your achievement imsodave.

I wish you all the very best. One important thing is when you get in your training, carry your expected trail weight if you are going unsupported. I think it was a guy called Mark Moxen who did lots of walking beforehand but didn't carry any gear. He walked 4 days then had to post gear home as it added up to 16 Kilo. Reasonable weight is around 10 Kilo not including supplies.

I did LEJOG this year (2012) starting on 17th May arriving 4th Sept of 1749ks. From S.W West Coastal path to Minehead. Road walking to Bath. Cotswold Path to Chipping Camdan. More road to Edale to walk the Southern part of the Pennine way to Bowes. 10 days of road walking to Glasgow. West Highland Way and The Glen Way before 200ks from Inverness to John O Groats. 11days with 14 days of rest. Dodged the wet English summer.

Great movie and soundtrack, much better quality all round than mine, and a fantastic achievement in the wintertime too, I was so tempted to turn around and walk back heading south, what about you?

This is a very triumphant song. This song must be about a man who has set himsef a big challenge which he refers to as Hercules. So when he gets to John o' Groats he has acheived it and has overcome Hercules. This is a good song to play after any big acheivement.

This is actually one of the best songs i've ever heard. I've listened to it loads of times. Amazing guitar solo and in my opinion this song is better than Stairway to Heaven.

Attempt number one fell apart when airline lost rucksack on first day. almost lost tent on second day, fell in a peat bog third day, blisters on top and bottom of feet on fourth day and finally advised to not take any more risks on day 5. Doing it by yourself may be more flexible with distances and time however is one hell of a psychological battle when things go wrong. Hoping to make another attempt in 2016 though need to find some other people prepared to take on the challenge.

+Dingers Lands end to John O Groats by foot I have put back the attempt maybe until around 2020. Sounds a long way off however I am planning to train hard so I can carry 15 kg and cover 150 miles per week. I hope I never have to do this as in actual fact it will be more like 10 kg and around 120 miles per week.Very strong suggestion I make is reduce bag weight. I have bought some expensive light weight gear but based on my experiences it has been worth every penny. Look at Nordisk telemark 1 carbon for a tent. It is not as bomb proof as the Akto Hillberg but weighs quite a bit less and looks to be robust enough if you camp with careful consideration. Also look at the weight of the actual ruck sack. The one I took originally was around 2 kg. This is dead weight without much practical use other than adding to carriage weight. I have bought a 30 L at around 700 g which will also fold in half and act like a pillow. Raid Lite I think it is called.Regarding the route I will post it on your page. Stay safe, be sensible and don't push too hard :-)

@skillzdatkillz900 That sounds like me except I'm 19 but I aim to do it within 5-10 years and I want to start at Lands End, the only thing I would say is if you want to do it when your 23 start planning now like who your doing it with, are you going to have someone to support you to meet you up at certain points etc and where your going to stay of course, good luck with it :)

Thanks for replying. I am still at the beginner stage of doing regular long walks to get a bit fitter. It will be some months before I am fit enough to do the walk. I will take your advice about kit and vaseline - thanks so much.

One clever recommendation I did see is take vaseline for your feet. Put some sparingly on the bottoms can help stop blisters forming. However it does not stop your feet hurting like hell. Good luck and god bless.

Just asking if you have got your stuff sorted yet? I have got bag down to 12.5 kg which includes 2 kg water and about 500 g food. Would suggest if you can get a down sleeping bag. I got one from Millets. £40 and about 850 g. -21 C max. Most walkers recommend Bivy tent though I bought Vango Banshee 2 man (Force 10). Dropping a few bits gets it down to 2 kg. For the rest be ruthless but also be aware of your own safety. A heavy bag will impact on your feet in a bad way.

I'm hoping to do this in 2013, an absolute novice. Can you tell me what equipment/food/clothing/supplies you packed and what kitbag/shoes/special items/gadgets you took. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a million. June

A good port of call to start sorting your gear and general advice google mark moxon, long distance walking Also I would recommend finding out your desired calorie intake on the walk by estimating an average distance per day. Select foods high in calories and low on weight. Taste may have to be secondary. If you intend to road walk, High visability gear (yellow coat and trousers) will be important though you can get some that is also waterproof thus cutting down weight on separate items.
