We use a 6" trace, works a treat. The closer the bait is on the bottom the better. The length of trace makes no difference with a running sinker. Look how a whiting is shaped they are bottom feeders. Cheers

Glad you liked it. 90 percent of my catch is returned. Occasionally I keep a feed. That can easily be seen if you watch a few of my vids.

Can you recommend good sand whiting spots on redcliffe peninsula? Strictly summer whiting. Cheers mate.
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing5 жыл бұрын
DoomiePookie let me just start with there are no sure things anywhere. But from the first full moon in September margate beach fires up with summer whiting. You will notice several old fella’s in the same spots most days.

can you find beach worms on this beach?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing4 жыл бұрын
No.
@graemeafek14746 жыл бұрын
What reel would you recommend for this - with an emphasis on surf/beach conditions?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing6 жыл бұрын
it depends a fair bit on the rod you have or are using. For beach fishing, chasing whiting, bream, dart etc I like a 11.5 foot soft/lite style whiting rod with a 6" alvey. If you prefer spin reels then a 2500 to 4000 Shimano stradic.

Will they take soldier crabs?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing7 жыл бұрын
Jason Clark yes but if you can use the very small ones with the grey backs. They will take the blue ones but the small ones are better. About three on a hook

That on I made myself. Composite blank. 10ft I think that one is. I have about 40 but I’m fairly sure that’s the one.

Why not just use chicken? I've read lots of people saying chicken is just as good if not better than worms and yabbies. Sure chicken isn't their natural food source but what does that matter? Would save all the fluffing around with finding and looking after worms and other live baits.
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing4 жыл бұрын
No where close to live natural baits.
