Do you keep psilocybe species there or are those still too taboo for New Zealand science?

you can thank the catholic church for that

yes, if you search for psilocybe in their database (i cant send links in comments but look up NZFUNGI for the search portal) there are loads of specimens in there

Does NZ , have any shitake type mushrooms , or reishi types ? Puff balls , when young , - all white inside , can be eaten by people , as a steak , depending on the size - test for ripeness before picking , should remain solid .

Kia ora whānau i found a fungus basket today on Motueka spit amongst the lupin while we were doing weed control but it smelt like a sweet and salty caramel smell. What would the reason be why it smelt delicious lol. Ngā mihi 🙏

To help speard it , like the yellow slime mould , and the psyiciben , are also nibbled on . It may also be worth it , as an eabildle - check it out , and try to find out what it was feeding on , as you maybe able to get a medium to grow it , like native oyster mushroom .

may I suggest you start growing our native forests back we don't have enough left to maintain our existance we need to kull all pine plantations and pasture farms and return our lands to forest by letting the pigs roam free and tear up the farms and by burning our pine plantations to return some of the nutrients stolen from our soil and sent over seas not to mention raising the ph killing our fungus and stunting our natives. these spores need to be spread and released from this seed bank asap into our environment. it's our only defended against covid and the likes is a thriving ecosystem and at the moment NZ is in a state of decay from deforestusation causing drought turning us to a dessert like the rest of the deforested world

whats your guys position on the amount of exotic mushrooms being sold at local markets at the moment . also the mushroom blocks that are readily available from asian grocers. do these blocks have to pass any tests regarding the contents of the blocks. prior or post importation

I wouldn't buy the split gill fungus they sell. The spores can grow in the nose, sinuses and bronchial tubes, even into the brain. There have been fatalities, even recently in New Zealand.
