Hi everyone!
For the first time traveller to Japan, the airport can be very intimidating and confusing.. I remember when I first went I felt that way! In today's video I'm going to show you guys and also tell you what you should do before you leave the airport, whether it may be Narita or Haneda Airport, to make your travelling easier! I also show you quickly the different methods of transport you can take from the airport into central Tokyo! I always travel with a huge suitcase so I also show you what you can do to get it sent straight to your hotels so you don't have to worry about it!! Hope you enjoy this video and hope it was helpful!

I explained it in a previous video but I exchange in Australia. And no, every single airport around the world jacks up the rates for currencies so you get ripped off.
@redfish337
@redfish337 4 жыл бұрын
You need a little to get started... which you can get at home, or the airport in Japan. TBH the rate was pretty decent last time I was there, so I exchanged more than normal so I'd have a little more leeway. Well, honestly I usually have enough in reserve to not have to, but I was with some Japan newbies who had to exchange, so I had THEM exchange more, lol. I exchange the bulk in Tokyo through, after checking a few different exchanges to see who's giving the best rate. It can switch around a little bit from year to year, so you don't want to automatically trust a company that used to be good without checking the numbers. But, TBH, it apparently depends a lot on what currency you're using. And that takes research on your own part.

yep its not a good guide. Issues : 1st of SIM card is complicated to connect and install so get a wifi device since it is simple to install. 2nd train is the easiest option and you need an IC card mostly for your intire stay, single tickets are extremely complicated for first time visitors and time consuming in general. 3rd prices ? 4th how will you find where to drop off the bus will they say it in english or write it somewhere ? Or will someone say the name of the station in japanese and good luck 5th going to the center for the first time ? without guide or knowledge of the city ? Thats insane your first day should be a guide of the city with a guide or a group so you get to adapt a little. 6th half of the video is a shopping and showing parts of the city. It felt like this was her 10th time and she was trying to make it seem as easy as it is for her to others..

My friend and I used your videos to plan our trip to Japan in 2018 and you were the only one we found that had a capsule hotel in Akihabara for women only. Surprisingly it was really difficult to find a women only capsule hotel near Tokyo station! All the closer ones seemed to cater to only men. It would be awesome to see more helpful travel tips like this since we never knew about the luggage service in Japan and we did a lot of research before our trip!

traveling solo in japan can be a little scary the first time but once you get there and get comfortable, it gets a lot easier. i was more nervous because i don't know the language which can make things a little bit difficult. there were a couple people though who saw me on this last trip i went on to tokyo who asked if i needed help (which was surprising tbh since the first time i went alone no one asked if i needed help) if you know japanese, i'm sure it'll be easier as well.

I would just like to point out a few things. #1. You don't really NEED to change your phone's SIM card. Narita airport has free WiFi and most hotels have WiFi as well. #2. Luggage delivery is fine, but it comes with a cost. I travel light, so I only have a tiny suitcase, but if you do have bigger bags, it's much cheaper to use coin lockers in train stations. Better yet, just drop them off at your hotel for safekeeping, then travel around suitcase-free the whole day before going back to the hotel to check in.

It´s nice, but a little warning for travelers. Plan in advance how to go from the airport to you hotel. Not only "a but for Tokyo" or "a train for Tokyo". Pretty sure you must do some transfers along the way. Some tips Get an App for you phone to navigate in the Tokyo sub and train network. Something like "Tabimori". There´s a lot of lines and this can be a little confuse. Also plan in advance how to go from the station to the hotel. This can seems easy, but some stations have more than a hundred exits and some stations are really huge. Check the exit near you hotel and use Google Maps to get some references. In the stations always follow the signals. There´s a detail about transfers that can be a little nightmare. Some stations with the same name aren´t in the same place. Sometimes you must exit a station and walk to another. On the map and a lot of apps says "transfer to line xxxx at xxx station" and there´s two separate stations. Some examples are Ryogoku station, Shimbashi or Ochanomizu. It´s easy to go from one to the next, just follow the signals. Also remember: Suica/PASMO only work with metro and train without "seat reserve". And sometimes when you cross a barrier from an platform you must pass not only your Suica/Pasmo, also the ticket of the train. As an example, if you take the Keisei line from the airport and change at Nippori to transfer to the Yamanote (a really usual travel) you must pass the ticket and the card at the barrier. Finally a fact that it´s sometimes stange. If you change train or metro for another of the same company, there´s no barrier between platforms. You pay the total travel with the two lines, not separated ones. And a really final one. Some lines changes the name in some stations. There´s lines who ends at some stations, but the train /metro continues with a new name. An example can be the Seibu Ikebukuro line, some of the trains of this line don´t end in the Seibu platform at Ikebukuro, they go underground some stations before and from Ikebukuro continues as the Yurakucho line.

It's most likely Suica for Apple Pay. No support for Android, last I remember. Suica/Pasmo and etc are interoperable prepaid train cards. You tap it when going in and out of train stations. It'll automatically deduct the train ride price. I'd highly suggest getting one so you don't have to calculate train prices and purchase a ticket manually. Just put $20/50 on it. You can also keep recharging it if needed. You can use them on vending machines, taxis, and some other things too. They cost 500 yen for the card, but you can get that and any remaining balance when you leave Japan by bringing it to one of the booth attendants. Or you can keep the card as a souvenir and/or use it on your next trip.

We bought a prepaid SIM Card at the electric store named BIC Camera located at the Terminal 1, 4 th Floor (5 GB for about 16 €).The prepaid cards sold in the vending machines are very expensive to my opinion. You can compare the prices after your arriving. We bought this one, with a cat)) www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/

@@seasons1146 hi! I really don’t know because we did the luggage service from the reception of our hotels. We did it from Osaka to Kyoto, Kyoto to Kanazawa and Kanazawa to Tokyo. It’s fast, reliable and so convenient.

Since you go to Tokyo rather a lot you got a Suica card but I think you can get one from the Airport, right? And then you download their App to have it virtual? BTW love the hair, it suits you very well.

Also! Learn basic Japanese (and Japanese etiquette) before going into another country (locals will appreciate it and will be amazed), pocket mifis are faster than sim cards, have a good powerbank, use Google Translate, wear proper shoes (your feet will get SORE), and use Google Maps to get around (and know train station times)! I went to Japan for the first time last year and Google Maps & Google Translate were my life saver 😂 Currently binge watching Japan travel videos just because I miss it so much and we can't travel because of covid 😢

I think there has to be someone standing by who would be there to accept the luggages, so maybe it doesn't work with Airbnb if the owner is not on site?

I don't believe they will deliver to non-hotels. You can ship them to one of the shipping company's offices. Like how you can tell UPS and Fedex to hold your package for pick up. I was staying in hostels and did that.
