SpiceJet's SG480 B737-800 flying in from Mangalore on final approach and landing on runway 32 at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai(Bombay) and then taxiing towards the domestic terminal, T1B.
The city of Mumbai, also known as Bombay, can be seen as the aircraft aligns with runway 32 on final approach. The Kurla carshed, Vidyavihar local train station and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus(Kurla Terminus) train station can be seen. Known as the city of dreams, Mumbai is the financial capital of India and home to Bollywood, the Indian(Hindi) film industry.
I know, I know, those slums are not Dharavi but around the Kurla-Govandi area. It was a mistake.

There is a permanent stench that seems to emanate from Mumbai, yet it is a city that can move, feed and cure people in the millions.

Mumbai has changed a lot over the past few years . Slums, matchbox houses and shanties have given rise to high rise apartments that are state of the art and imposing .malls and multiplexes have replaced those dilapidated and worn out textile mills . Corruption has reduced and there is an emphasis on cleanliness (thanks to Modi's Swachch Bharat Swabhiman- Clean India Mission ) Traditional cash payments are now a passe, many use Paytm and electronic wallets. Metro will be fully operational in the city in a couple of years which will revolutionize the way the citizens commute. The city still has miles to go of course but one cannot deny the fact that it has come this far....

Nope...i beg to differ . With all due respect, this is runway 32...the aircraft approached from Kurla. It crossed the Mithi river just before touchdown. If it were 27, the approach would have been over Ghatkopar and Asalfa and the Mithi river would have been under the runway. Refer Google maps for exact bearing.

What ever said and done....one thing we all have to agree upon is that Bombay is getting crowded...in fact too crowded. The city's natrual resources have already been stretched to the limit. This is a very serious matter...any more addition to the population can collapse the city's infrastructure. I'm from Bombay. Remember when we were kids there used to be a question in our geography paper-How many lakes are there in Bombay? The answer was five. This was years ago when the city's population was one tenth of what it is today. With this ever increasing population over the years the number of lakes supplying water to the city is STILL just five. The Government had ample of resources to build new lakes as there were huge tracts of land available all around the city. But they did NOTHING. This Chatrapati Shivaji airport we are talkign about is also in very dire straits. There is only one runway both for landing and take off.And there is also one very less known fact....below this runway runs a water pipe which is almost two hundred t=years old. It must be old and rusted immensely by now.One can imagine what will happen if it suddenly leaks,.... Then we have this ever increasing population. Our borders are open...millions of Bangladeshis are entering our country every year.There is a train which runs between Bangladesh and Calcutta and these illegal migrants are entering and settling there in Bengal courtesy that un-educated Mamta didi. These bangalis then come across to Bombay and commit crimes and murders as well. There are shanties filled with these illegals in Chembur and many other pockets in the city. How much more will our city bear......it is high time that the Government did something. Our leaders are utterly corrupt and selfish I pity the future of our city-Bombay.
