I recently sold my 40 acre parcel about 5 miles behind the flying AA to the south. final payment was just after the fires. I was sure they would walk away and I would be stuck with a burned out piece of property. but no, they Paid me off. but the cabin my dad had built was gone along with all the timber except the Oaks, and Madrone trees. I was happy to see both of your videos on the Ruth area.

I flew there in 1978 - though I doubt much has changed. I didn't fly a typical traffic pattern, it was easier to just descend into the canyon, following the river. Sort of like the ending on Star Wars when they were going into the crevices of the Death Star. IIRC the late George Kennedy-avid pilot, used to have some ranch near there.

You inspired me to head up there last Saturday. It was on my bucket list for a couple years. Very rugged terrain between Gravelly Valley and there! Very cool. I landed the opposite way, which was quite a nice surprise approach. Looks dead up there and they no longer have it for sale.

Loved seeing that old Bonanza. My Dad had Bonanzas all thru my childhood...”If” I remember correctly we first had an A model, then a C, and finally an M. The time period was btw 1953 and 1969. We even took it to Fairbanks from Oakland, Ca...a trip I will always remember.

The most enjoyable 5 minutes I've had since arriving home from my extended travels was watching that video! Squeezed in a fair amount of air travel during the past three months, had what could be described as an 'interesting' approach on a very windy day flying into Wellington NZ on a Dash 8 turboprop, fairly uneventful otherwise! Great video, thanks Juan.

Wow. So many memories. My mother was a chef there in the 80's. I spent many summers on that ranch. As a matter of fact, I'm in the commercial. The owner, Larry Brown, his grand daughter Becky is still a family friend and one of my closest childhood friends. Makes me sad it closed.

Been there many times. Ruth has difficult approaches both ends. The other approach you fly into a oneway canyon and don't see the the runway until very short final. Back in the day it was a great place to eat.

Ah, thanks for the memories. Only landed there a few times in '82 '84. Had to do a low flyby once to help clear runway of a couple of cows once. I flew a Cessna 150M and downwind to base and final was around a small hill and you would loose sight of runway doing that, but a few local homes would have folks sitting on their decks having a drink and we would give them a wave while going by. Nice old bar just up the hill a short ways back then. Hayfork was another fun place and great for dirt biking.

Juan, that brings back many fond memories. Did quite a few Grumman fly-ins there back in the 80's. Was a cool place to spend the weekend, they did a great Saturday night BBQ cooked over a California live oak fire they started early in the day. I think the ranch has been on the market for several decades now. The place died with the demise of the logging industry.

On another note, the owner of SussexNJ, is quite old, the airport has been for sale a long time, BUT he only wants to sell it to anybody in aviation, he does NOT want it to become an industrial park, or housing, as NJ has LOST too many airports in NJ over the years, don’t know how long it is, but an empty B17, a P51G , a B25, and others have flow in for airshows over the years Leo Loudenshlager flew here Shawn D Tucker, The French Connectioon, Jimmy Franklyn, a Twin Beach 18 aerobatic, you name them, they all flew here every year for years even an F80 shooting star.
