Landing Gear MOD for the E-Flite T-28 Trojan

I just completed mine today. I used a servo wire extension and taped the original before I pulled it thru. Then removed the steering servo to remove the tape and separate the connection. Pulled out the old retract wire. Put in the T33 wire and fed it to the steering servo area. Reconnected the servo extension and taped it. Carefully pulled it back thru the airframe and under the battery tray. The only slightly tricky part was the retract plate was slight crooked due to the holes being just a bit off. I was able to adjust the retract straight and tighten the 4 screws. Worked great. I did have a servo reverse issue and had to get a different one. I'll be buying the ones you recommended to ensure I don't have a problem. Thanks for your video. It really was helpful and helped me make the decision to proceed.

I've got a question on the servo reverser. Will they all work? The one I bought (had in the toolkit) seems to function well for my steering servo. It only seems to work the first time plug in a battery fir the retracts. Have you had any issues with the one in the description? I'm planning to get those tomorrow but wanted to check in. Thanks.

I eliminated the servo reverser. I was fixing the original retract and saw how it was put together. I then locate the MotionRC T33 gear. Same size. So i took that apart and put the gear in the original. Actually fairly easy. Take it apart, get the case to close and it must be tight so the wires need to be in fully. Then screwed back together. Checked it before reinstalling and worked perfectly. Just need to pay attention to the setup. Now to fly it when the wind is not 12-15mph. Ping me if you want help.

@@doncook639 Glad yours worked. I just read his "explanation" and it is not what the Spektrum site says. They do not talk about interference with the rx. Hope it continues to work. My rebuilt OG retract with the T33 nose strut will not have any issues since the electronics are OG.

The reason why I had to use the existing retract because motion was back ordered. So if you can get the retract with the landing gear that's the best way like you're doing it here. Making the motion gear work with the eflight retract is a pain in the ass! I did make it work though.

Could you share how you did this? The Motion one requires a servo reverser and Spektrum recommends not using them with a Y harness like the retracts have.

I purchased the servo reverser 2-pack that you recommended from Amazon. It only works when you put it in line with the battery power already applied. But when you unplug the battery and connect it again, the nose gear servo no longer actuates. So I tried putting the two servo reversers on the main gear instead…same thing happens. Not sure what is going on, nor how to correct this, other than trying a different servo reverser.

You don't know how to hook up the servo reverser apparently.

I think I figured it out. The reverser uses a slight amount of power. I added a 4in servo wire that I can easily disconnect each time I swap a battery. A pain but it likely will work since I can disconnect/reconnect without the ears on the main gear 3-way y holding the reverser in.

I checked with Horizon and here is what I got back from the "bot"Is it possible to increase the output voltage of the AR631 on a channel? The T-28 1.2m has a 3-way y-harness and I need to put a servo reverser on it and it seems the output voltage is a little low when split 3 ways. Virtual Assistant I'm sorry, but it's not possible to increase the output voltage of the AR631 on a channel. The AR631 has a minimum operational voltage of 3.5 volts and a maximum of 9.6 volts. It's also important to note that when using Y-harness or servo extensions with Spektrum equipment, do not use reversing harnesses as it may cause servos to operate erratically or not function at all. Rather than a servo reverse wire, What would happen if you had initialized the front gear first with a servo tester to match the others being down and then use the gear up switch? Would it stay sequencing correctly?

@@bgblindt I’ll give it a try. I just snapped off that pot metal front gear shaft trying to bend it back. Just ordered that freewing T33 front gear assembly you got. So, we’ll see what happens. I’ll post an update if successful. Otherwise I’ll spend $8 and get the servo reverse wire. Great video and thanks for posting it.. very helpful. I liked the tie wrap trick.. I usually use my go-get-em wire that comes with every FreeWing plane.

Looks like the design has changed. You now need to purchase a threaded push rod to go with the threaded plastic clevis that the kit comes with. T-28 pushrod will no longer work. Looks like stock T-33 pushrods are too short.
