Landscape Photography - Catbells - Lake District

The start of an impromptu visit with the wife to our favourite place.. The Lake District.
Setting off from the Midlands at midnight we arrived at the foot of Catbells at 0430am with a plan to capture sunrise from the summit. All the signs were pointing towards a temperature inversion, or so we hoped.
As soon as we began the short trek towards the summit it quickly became apparent a temperature inversion wasn't on the menu for the morning. However we were treated to some beautiful light and some moody clouds, which I was extremely happy to photograph.

The mixture of amazing light and mood in this one was well worth the 4 hour drive and hike up in the dark. Some absolutely beautiful images in this one, really enjoyed it!

Nice that the misses made it up there with you, it's always nice to share the journey and experience. The heather in that area in August is always amazing. My wife sometimes insists in accompanying me when I go out to do some astro photography, not to enjoy the view but to make sure this 75 year old comes back safe! Great images Martin, loved the video as always

Hi Martin you were treated to some amazing light up on Cat Bells enabling you to capture some fantastic images. It was definitely worth the hike up. I'm looking forward to a couple of trips to the Lakes this Autumn.

Great vlog mate, for me I like the landscape version, reason being the side light on the left of the image just balances image with the sunrise on the right.

Cant beat a walk up Catbells to catch the sunrise. Great walk in the dark but carrying all your camera gear as well as the hiking gear is a real pain ! Still worth the effort some lovely images from the summit , last time i tried it was not a great sunrise but still enjoyed the hike up.

I have only ever been to the lakes once and mostly it peed down for 4 days, pranged my car, broke a lens so I have been afraid to go back..lol. I would though walk catbells I reckon - the view looks fab.. well done both on getting up there early. Those two opening images were fab, the landscape swung it for me, better light I reckon. Like yourself I too am a fan of pockets of light. Wow catbells really is a ridge...must have a lot of footfall looking at the path. Nice little vlog Mart. atb Al

Thanks Al, sounds like you had a right ordeal when you visited the lakes 🤣😢 I've been coming here since my teenage years. Catbells is a great little fell and very popular with families as a great introduction to kids for fell walking with a couple of very easy little scrambles before venturing out on to the bigger fells. But as you've noticed it's suffered a considerable amount of erosion over the years. It does however make for stunning views all around. If you ever recover from your Lake District fears it's one to definitely check out. Just not during mid summer in the middle of the day 🤣
