Thank you both for the critique on my picture I have been looking right now and your suggestions are a very good idea for the picture. Looking at your version I feel more comfortable staying with my eyes on the right hand side of the picture. Thank you Alister and thank you Adam it's so helpful to improve my postprocessing.

I found very interesting both opinions!first of all Julia great job, I love dramatic and moody seascapes! Adam your move to crop it to 1:1 correct the whole unbalanced thing, it had gorgeous results to the image ! Alister I like very much how you read the images! I have learned so much from you! If I changed something it will be the crop (like adam) and darkening the left side of the sky until got balanced with the left and then slight darkening the top of while sky to achieve a moodier feeling!

Both critiques demonstrated strategies to lesson the weight on the right side. Adam pointed out the mid area being perhaps a bit lackluster in connecting the fore and back ground elements. Couple of thoughts: One would be to capture with a lower camera position thereby decreasing the apparent mid ground so the visual flow from front to back is more connected. Granted that might require some focus stacking to pull it off. A second thought would be to explore some color contrast between the green and blue water as Adam briefly explored. Thinking however that it’s a fine line between a subtle color enhancement and a distracting element that could contribute to more left to right imbalance? Another constructive critique with a range of helpful solutions that I can apply to my images.

I always enjoy these critiques and especially how you and Adam see an image and may interpret it so differently based on your experiences. Thank you.

This fashion for long exposure images to the extent of eliminating textures puzzles me. I recall its early days from what was then Derby Tech's photography department's experiments. But these days it seems to be a sort of requirement. Water is not a gas; like all earth's elements it can be and might have been, but it isn't and as such it has a surface texture. I could perhaps see the sense of subduing it if it conflicted with or confused other important textural elements of a composition. This image might have felt more secure in its geometry as a panorama incorporating a little more from the right of the scene which would have avoided wide angle distortions! But that can't be done after the event. This series is an interesting idea and the Scottish is good to hear.

I really loved to hear about your comments of the photo and potential ways of improving it. Surely is a challenging job but it is so interesting that I subscribe to this channel. Thx for the work you have done !

Great stuff. Please keep it up. It's funny how the same picture looks different in your monitor/screen compared to Adam's, in terms of colors and contrast.

Good ideas from both. I wondered about darkening and increasing contrast on the left hand part of the sky. Not sure what it would wind up looking like but that would even out the sky and maybe add a little balance. Maybe. Perhaps. :)

I could never ever live in Scotland. Congrats to you for loving it. The cold dreary climate would make me seriously depressed. How do you manage it Alister?

I am surprised that neither Adam nor Alister commented on the rising line near the top right corner. That is what I found distracting. My crop would keep the aspect ratio but move the right edge to the lowest point of the skyline. For me, the interest in the picture was the imbalance of light on the left and dark on the right, and thus I would try to remove what distracts from that. Goes to show, everyone has a different take on your picture.

Again, 2 diferent aproaches. Both show us less is more though on the amount of suppleness reqired in making changes, except for Adam's crop. Very nice colour tones in this image for a dark mood, even after Alister's brightening up the RH sids a tad

Since you do these image reviews independently of each other, after every video I wonder how you actually react to each other's suggestions for what to do with each image!

I think he talks nonsense 😂😂😂 kidding. I always get a fresh perspective from Adam, and it reminds me not to hold on to our perspectives and beliefs too fondly, we can change.
