This is Part 2 of my 3 video series from the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona. In this weeks video, I climb higher in elevation to find the perfect saguaro set against an expansive desert background.

one of the things i really love about your work is that you shoot in colour. SO SO many channels that shoot anything bigger than 4x5 keep going to black and white and i think to myself its such a shame they don't use colour more often. Very impressed by your work. Keep them coming

Shane, looks as though this will grow into a fabulous LF channel. . I do like the inclusion of camping and truck in the desert footage. Much better than sitting in your office and showing some photos you've take,. ATB, Gary.

I love these with the uniform light. A lot of 'Large Format' Channels only do B&W but I always prefer colour, even on dull days which we get a lot of here in Ireland You also display a calm disposition taking these shots Brilliant! 📷👌

Fine photos! Your videos are interesting and relaxing! My question is "what about snakes when hiking and climing?" Kind regards from Sweden.

Enjoyed all three videos, Shane. Thanks for making them. Nice to see the Toyp at work. It's a splendid camera. I'm curious about the information taped to its side. Is it bellows factors?

Thanks, Bernard! Agreed! The Toyo is a great camera. Taped to the side are reciprocity failure times.

Love the last composition. I just returned from a trip to Tucson and Saguaro National Park seeking something similar, but came up short. The density of the Saguaros in the West District makes it challenging to find the perfect Saguaro without all the distractions around it. Next time, I'll check out the BLM land you were running around on.

KZbin will never give the glorious detail of 8x10 film, shame. Wondered if you had given thought to filtering the sky? No clouds but it might have brought the brightness down a touch. Either way thanks for the video and going through your process.

I agree, it’s all for the prints. None of these photos made it much further than KZbin, so I didn’t put much effort in the edit. Thanks for watching!

I enjoy your videos so much Shane, really laid back and chill. I wonder how you meter those scenes? Meter for the shadows and adjust the sky with a grad ND? I really struggle to position those somehow...
@shanedignum
@shanedignum 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Simon! I’m glad you enjoy them. I meter off of 18% grey, place my shadows in Zone 3 (for color neg) and watch my highlights. It varies scene by scene. Position your grad with your lens stopped down, this help a bit, but there’s definitely some guess work when placing grads.

A bit heavy handed in the production. Watching your car drive around is not educational. Sorry, couldn’t finish it.

I agree with Doug, I got as far as 6:30 and gave up, filled with fluff and no photography, I personally don’t need to see a camping set up and breakfast and lunch..
