Really great vlog on Clyde Butcher, I have met Clyde Butcher on two different occasions here in Florida where I live, once in his workshops in the Everglades National park and again at a seminar he put on. He does amazing B&W large format photography that we all can learn from. He recently had a stroke that he's recovering from but is recovering. Its very nice of you to discuss his work Tom.

Another great video Tom. I've never heard of Clyde or seen his work before. I did like a couple of the pictures you showed, but I wasn't really moved by the others. Thanks for breaking down every picture and explaining what the photographer was trying to achieve.

My father was best friends with Clyde Butchers son “Ted Butcher” Ted Butcher died right next to my dad in a car accident we just Clyde’s Most recent book he signed it for us my dad was right there when Ted died it was because when guys were getting chased by drunk guys there car got hit but they were fine, but then the drunk driver threw a beer bottle at the other driver knocking him out causing the car to drive right into Ted’s side killing him instantly. My dad started crying when he saw and he was at the trial and the two drivers were sentenced to 50 years in prison. One of them got out because he was incredibly sorry and he wasn’t the one who threw the beer bottle the other one had to stay in though

Nice presentation of Clyde Butcher's master work! I know Clyde personally and he will most likely be pleased to see how you commented on his photographs, despite the fact understandably that you sometimes did not accurately described the vegetation or scenery! But don't worry, not that many people know about the area unless you are a true Floridian who explores these magnificent locations. Most of these photographs I believe were taken at Big Cypress National Preserve in the southwestern part of the State of Florida as well as Myakka River State Park in the western (central) part of the State of Florida. Thank you for this nice presentation and do not hesitate to visit and explore South Florida if you ever come to the States!

Mr. Butcher does some excellent photography, and his printing may be his strongest suit. I have no idea how you print black around those clouds and not affect them or make them muddy, unless you employ some kind of mask. Can you imagine the paper cost and all the trial and error in the darkroom? Where did you obtain the images to include in your video?

Good job explaining his photos. Clyde Butcher worked really hard lugging that 8 by 10 gear into Florida swamps in probably very humid and hot conditions. He's an under appreciated photographer I think.

Awesome video Tom about Clyde Butcher and his work! I've had the opportunity to meet Clyde and talk to him about photography! I have one of his books and I've also gone to see his exhibits at the Florida museum here in Tampa. I studied each photo at the Museum sometimes spending 30 minutes just looking at one photo! And just by studying his work I've learned quite a bit and many times I will implement it into my style of photography. Although I love black and white, I also love color too! I gave you a thumbs up on your video and chances are I will also subscribe to your Channel. I never got to meet Ansel Adams, so Clyde Butcher is the closest person in my opinion that is very much like Ansel Adams, that we have that's alive!

Concerning the dark sky: It's done with a red filter. IMO that should work with digital, too. If I remember correctly Ansel Adams said he doesn't like the excessive use of red filters ;) Nice vlog as usual, btw :)
@BonciuToma
@BonciuToma 6 жыл бұрын
I know how it's done on film but the digital raw is in color (it doesn't matter the camera settings). Only one or two camera have the raw in black and white. This means that you need to apply the red filter digitally which takes on the quality of the photo. There are techniques you can use but they are time consuming. Thanks for the comment

Thank you for this essay, Tom. Sometimes you can also get better by studying the work of others. I learned a lot from Lee Anne White. She got her start in garden photography, but has gone beyond that in some directions you might like.

Faina seria asta de video pe care le faci explicand fotografiile astea simple B&W ale unor mari fotografi. Si cand spun ca-i faina ma refer la coloana sonor, explicatia ta pe fiecare cadru in parte, tonul calm si relaxat. Totul!
