In this simulation, the Granular Flow Model was used to simulate a hypothetical landslide into the Agua del Toro reservoir in Argentina. The sliding landmass, a combination of debris and water, was modeled as a high-density fluid with special mechanical properties. This landmass then hits the surface of the reservoir, generating a massive wave. A sensor tracking the velocity of the wave was located in the middle of the reservoir. The purpose of this work is to explore different approaches to modeling catastrophic failures in hydraulic infrastructures due to natural or artificial agents, with the ultimate goal of disaster prevention.
