Simpson Strong-tie has a schedule for all of their ties and what fasteners should be used. Not following this schedule means you're not following building codes . H1 are supposed to be using 8d nails that are 0.131 inches in diameter and 2 1/2" long.

Interesting video, I have fixed many hundreds of trusses over the years but have toenailed them all, I didn't even know the H1 bracket existed but I can see it is a very effective way of fixing the trusses
@LandtoHouse10 жыл бұрын
These clips are very handy. I was able to install the clips in less than an hour and it made the truss installation very fast. And the trusses stayed in the correct spot when nailed in place.

Is it me or has this clip been installed back to front?

Apparently it can be installed in both directions.

My handyman drilled a hole into one of these when installing curtains high up.... is that bad?
@LandtoHouse7 жыл бұрын
You should be alright. There is plenty of area to ensure that the fastener is still going to be strong. Must have been drilling way up on that wall.

I do have to admit that I am far from a pro. I am just a homeowner that likes to try things. I do hope your work goes well!
@MrClosedCaptioned9 жыл бұрын
I noticed you are installing these facing inwards. Is that allowed? I am about to do this and it would make the install easier if my H10A could rest on the top plate (both for support as I nail, and also for lining up on center with markings).
@LandtoHouse9 жыл бұрын
What i read is that when installed like this a birds beak cut is not required. But please do further research before building. I am no pro.
@johniemullins51424 жыл бұрын
Your spacing is all wrong they should sit on top of a stud to transfer the load of the roof to the foundation not the top plate AND h1 clips go on AFTER THE TRUESS IS INSTALLED not to set the truss in.
@jamesp76234 жыл бұрын
You’re not exactly correct. When you use 16” spacing on your walls and 24” spacing on your trusses each truss will not sit over a stud. Double top plate resolves that issue by spreading the load. Installing the H1 clip before hand isn’t we wrong but I wouldn’t do it.

70 plus strikes to drive a 3" nail? get a heavier hammer and work angle - ladder outside vs your way.

100% you do. The birdsmouth allows weight of rafter to ride the plate.

Michael Mannino oh I see. Well that would have been helpful. To be honest I have never done any of this stuff before and I am learning as I go. Thank you for this info! I have installed more strong tie on the inside of the trusses with the same nails. The building seems very strong.

For what it is worth, that isn't Simpson Strong-Tie's product, it is a USP product and isn't called as an H1.

+Land to House they have a white label with green letters. That is USP's label. They have H1 on their box because they reference their part to our SKU's. We are a no equal product for what it's worth.
