Did this a months back in SFO on a Yamaha Super Tenere with side cans. It was an amazing time saver and the traffic was actual very cool with it. Not something I do every day but glad I could.

In NYC, "my friend" lane splits all the time... 'He" knows it's illegal, but He does it carefully and respectfully. Overall, NYC drivers have been pretty cool about it... says "he"

Traffic in California kept me from learning how to ride but now that I no longer live there I'm free!

Jeez Walter, I'm just glad I have no need to do that where I am. It just seems like no matter how careful and thoughtful you are, someone can easily ruin you day.

Bob R that sentiment can apply to motorcycling in general. I tried to weigh the balance between sitting in stop and go with agitated drivers for over an hour, or being home and off the road in 20 minutes. The video makes it seem sketchier than it is. I always keep my closing speeds low enough so a tumble would bruise my ego but not be catastrophic. Those guys who fly past slow moving traffic are just asking for it.

I've lived on the West coast a number of times, but have yet to ride my bike there. Not sure if lane splitting needs to be legal nationally only because the volume of traffic across the nation isn't as bad as that in California (except maybe the Beltway in DC, or Atlanta). Knowing East coast culture there would be a lot of resistance against it, and incidents of road rage as well. I think it would be a sad thing if traffic volume increased to the level that lane slipping would be a necessity. I like my sparse and open roads.

Do you live in a big urban area? I live in NYC and legal lane splitting would be such a relief...

I commute to work in Philadelphia from Jersey. Given how quick people are to road rage here, it scares me to think about doing it. If I'm stopped in traffic that's not moving I'll do it along the wayside, but not between vehicles. NYC traffic is epic, I can easily see it being done there. Philly's not so bad if you know how to evade the high volume rush hour moments.

I’ve probably lane split thousands of miles in NYC. Should be legal as it is in California.
