Bach's C major prelude. One of the most inclusive pieces of music you will ever find. Playable for a beginner and yet still stimulating for a world-class virtuoso, music belongs to us all. Thankyou Lang Lang for the inspiration. (Update Dec 2023 : Here is a tutorial on how to play the piece by the way the illustrates how across the board this piece is kzbin.info/www/bejne/nl7QdqmJm7Gfircsi=YdQkM78n1OlTF1Kn)

@spicecrop not everything in the world is a political conversation. Here is another way to put it "Bach's C major Prelude is not so hard to play" - which means if you are not a virtuoso, it's still a doable piece for a novice but still enjoyable for a virtuoso. Hence the word - inclusive.

Hear me out... this is NOT a hard piece to learn you can easily sight read, but to get the emotion he does through, that is talent

This is definitely not an easy piece, yes the notes are easy, but maintaining a steady tempo (from start to end) and using the right expression while playing it without the pedal is harder than it seems.
@jsswift87
@jsswift87 4 жыл бұрын
@@crazyRyoga He uses the pedal at times here. On modern pianos it only makes sense to take advantage of the extra resonance you get from allowing all other strings to sympathetically vibrate with the notes struck in the melody. Not overusing it, timing the release and depression of the pedal, and avoiding getting a blurry sound is the tricky part. You can clearly hear him using the pedal and in fact see him using the pedal at 1:20 in the video.
@crazyRyoga
@crazyRyoga 4 жыл бұрын
@@jsswift87 I never said he did't use the pedal, I said that it's hard to make it sound good without it (it's also the best way to learn it first). You can add a bit of pedal if you prefer of course. He talks about it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnnKfaOaZt2FqJY&ab_channel=KlassikAkzente.
@crazyRyoga
@crazyRyoga 4 жыл бұрын
@Edna Turner There's nothing wrong with playing it with a bit of pedaling, and there's nothing wrong with playing it like it was written, without any pedaling. It is not "necessary". Glenn Gould, no pedal kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6nKnYKXebB-i6s&ab_channel=IamSylvan András Schiff, no pedal kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5jGZnmQqN6Wd9k&ab_channel=FelicesCantusBach
@crazyRyoga
@crazyRyoga 4 жыл бұрын
@Edna Turner "..he does indeed use the pedal for the first lower notes, then plays the higher notes staccato. Schiff also uses the pedal with the lower notes, and no pedal with the higher notes." The fact that managed to write those statements (with even a video proof that shows clearly Schiff NOT using the pedal) while believing that those 2 notes can't sound like that without the pedal just make me realize you probably never even touched a piano. Then as it wasn't funny enough you wrote "you obviously have no clue!". I don't think I'll continue the "debate" here. Take care.

I am a piano teacher in Austin, Texas, and have in the past year started a tradition of opening each student recital with a performance of this piece, because I hope that no matter what dreams my students may pursue in their lives after they finish piano lessons, they will always come back to this transcendent piano piece we have been graciously given as humans on planet earth. Lang Lang, I don't know if you will read these comments, but thank you, thank you, for recording this album and especially for making these short films. I am showing them to my students and their families this week as we just had our second recital starting with this piece. Thank you for dedicating this part of your career to this collection of music as you have in "Piano Book" and I will be referring to it many times for decades to come.

Dear Mr. Johan Sebastian Bach. Thank you for your precious communication from your XVIIIth Century, which has now been received in the XXIst Century with great acclamation. We do not doubt that the centuries that will come in the future will be no less enthusiastic about your work as a music composer as we are in 2021. Our best contemporary interpreters of your life's work make you live among us, and it is a widely shared desire that all of what we know of your production be passed on to other generations with great care. Seen from our vantage point, it seems that nothing will challenge eternity as much as the memory of what you did for human understanding of music. May your name live in glory forever. With ultimate admiration, Yours truly.

@PAULO MARIO MEDINA The patterns are the same. Just observe the minute changes after each chord. In the beginning, the left hand only has one change (move one note down a tone, i.e. from E to D) and the right hand moves one key up. You get to the next chord by another one-note change on the LH (this time from C to B) while repeating the RH notes. Next chord, you're back at the first position. And so on... It also helps to listen to what you're playing, because if you've memorised the melody, you'd kind of know where your fingers should go next. It also helps if you know chords for the same reason.

This is one of the rare instances when I reach for the superatives on hearing Lang Lang. Gone are the grimacing, eye-closing, gazing above in rapture and swaying out of sync with the music, and the dubious outfits. Instead, he worked strictly within the boundaries of good taste, and created a clear trajectory from beginning to end with the subtlest variation in touch , dynamics and emotional pressure. This should settle once and for all that he is a good pianist, and can deliver a respectable interpretation when he sheds his superstar persona. Endearingly, he had a score on the piano, which I am sure he didn't and needn't use. Bravissimo.
