Hi Dennis, Simple Engineering combined with Competent Maintenance = " A Sweet Reel" I like the Langley reels a lot for that simplicity. Am amazed the nylon like gear has held up so well. Nice effort w lots of great info. Many thanks again and and a shout out to all for a Happy New Year ! Cons Thanks

Back in the day we backed all of our reels with cord. I still back up my braid with mono. That’s a nice vintage reel Scott found, thanks Dennis!

say it ain't so, they could catch fish back in the olden days with a reel that doesn't have a stack of carbontex drag washers, a dozen "bearings" or a power handle! amazing

Or an Anti-reverse either. What will they think of next? Hand lining? or back to the cane pole?

The Zebco 830, basically a Langley design, is a fantastic "medium light" vintage reel. I have several in my collection and fish with one
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Yes - Zebco acquired Langley and used their designs after the stopped producing the reels under the Langley brand. Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis

I have three or four of the old Langley reels in my collection. They seem to be made quite well.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Yes they were. The Spin Flo has a nylon or plastic gear that is just as good today as it was in the 1950s. The aluminum body did not rust and the side plate paint has not faded. All signs of a well made reel!

I have one of those. Very basic but I like the styling
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
The styling is pure 1950s. Thanks

Happy New Year 💐 what a great reel. I like the handel knobs on old reels. Particularly the Dam Quick Junior with it's asymmetrical knob which is great for finesse fishing.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, you too! I like the early designs which were not afraid to change just about anything, including the knobs. Today's reels seem to be just a lot of me too copies - Thanks

The anti reverse on those reels are known to fail but easy to fix. I've restored several in my collection

Every reel has a weak point! Thanks for the note - Dennis

Do you think a carbon drag washer would be an improvement?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Not much. There isn't much drag in this reel. What it would do is prevent additional drag wear - Dennis

Dennis, I never have liked the Langley spinners. I guess it is because the anti-reverse just did not work very well. This simple little reel doesn’t even have an AR mechanism. I have a Langley and often I had to get a spring out of a ball point pen to replace the weak one wastIt hat came in these Langleys. That got a little better after Zebco acquired Langley. I like the Ocean City spinning reels that are rough;y from the same time period. This Langley like others made during the war and afterward used plastics but that’s okay. This was a very nice video for New Year’s Eve! Thank you and have a very Happy New .

I admire the company for trail blazing and the development of the spinning reels here in the US. Happy New Year Chris

as sad as it sounds, technology and medical treatment both gain advances, just out of necessity

Yes they do and we have a lot to be thankful for with innovators that do make things better. Think cars, televisions and MRIs - Nappy New Year
